Jim Jeffods in the sum...Actually, The GOP lost Sen. Jim Jeffods in the summer of 2001 when he decided to stop being a Republican, become an Independent and caucus with the Dems. The resulting party switch changed the majority party in the Senate.<br /><br />So it really took Bush only 6 months to lose a congressional seat. <br /><br />Not that it really matters, since it happens all the time.
