John McCain picked Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, a maverick conservative with less than two years in office, as his vice presidential running mate Friday in a startling choice as the Republican National Convention drew near.
At a raucous rally in the swing state of Ohio, McCain introduced Palin as the political partner "who can best help me shake up Washington and make it start working again for the people who are counting on us."
I think this is great!!!
A solid conservative who will take away Hillary votes...also someone who can speak about the energy issue and drilling. It's interesting that her state overwhelmingly supports drilling, yet it is people who have never been there or seen an accurate picture of where drilling would take place who try and stop it.
The dumb decision on McCain's part is that he did it today...
And for the liberals...yes, even though I have not listened to any talk radio today, my opinion here is 100% based on what Belling, Rush and Hannity think and in no way displays original thought...

As a woman and a pro-life mother, she was my first choice. I love it. Check mate for McCain!!!!!
Why do you think "a solid conservative" will "take away the Hillary votes"?
No doubt Hillary had supporters who backed her based on gender. I don't know, however, that it will translate to a shift for the same reason. Considering the possibilities, I have no problem with such shallow voters, should they exist, casting their votes for McCain because of his choosing Palin.
Palin seems to answer concerns of conservatives that were troubled by McCain as the GOP nominee (so where the hell were they in the primaries?). From what I've heard, she moved James Dobson to commit to the ticket. I like her based on what little I know. I do think her gender will draw attention (if not her babe-oscity) and that's a good thing for a candidate that has not been given equal time by the media.
Hmmm. Pehaps I spoke too soon. Check out this post at SisterToldjah's and scroll down to comment #13 to read some comments for Hillary supporters.
Here is why Jay...she is a woman.
She is a woman and not a empty suit that scares most people with common sense.
oh..and I guess I have to change my mind after listening to talk radio...actually I only heard Savage for 20 min today..he hates the pick...so now I do too....lol
even if McCain only takes away 25 percent of Clinton voters that is still 3 million or so
anybody who supported clinton but votes for sidney is an idiot. mccain is the antithesis of everything hillary stands for. they'll get what they deserve.
see, you show that you are simply a far left sheep who cant think for yourself...anyone who thinks McCain is a far right wing guy doesn't have a clue. He is moderate to liberal in conservatives opinion...
He can't be too liberal and just like GWB at the same time...
hello, former hillary supporter
palin is a dealmaker for me, not because she is female, but because she is not romney, and is capable of thinking outside of the box
anonymous, what you need to internalize is the fact that, people like myself are the kingmakers in this situation
for the shenanigans you were willing to support at the texas caucuses, the busing of undocumented black kids from davenport, iowa, to vote in the iowa primaries, and the attempted disenfranchisement of TWO states, you will pay, and you will not have your plastic messiah
and that is what you get, for trying to ram an unqualified sham candidate, whose only apparent redeeming quality was that he was black, down our throats
and game, i heard savage as well, remember that he was big on romney, i think that was affecting him more than any real animosity to palin
if not just because she will siphon hillary supporters and others disheartened by obongo's counterfeit candidacy away, he will come around, i think
i've noticed sarah seems to have the same sort of iconoclastic personality savage does
anyone who thinks McCain is a far right wing guy doesn't have a clue. He is moderate to liberal in conservatives opinion...
it doesn't matter if you think he's conservative or not. that's just a label. he's against choice, favors the wealthy at the expense of the middle class, favors war first and forever, want's to kill social security, and is against real health care solutions. palin want's to teach creationism in public schools and drill in anwr.
if any hillary supporter wants to vote for mccain/palin now, then they are simply embittered, whining sore losers who supported clinton because she's a woman and not for the things she stands for. i have no respect for people like that.
palin is capable of thinking outside of the box? based on what?
Who cares about Savage? As long as Rush is repeating the party lines, everybody can be happy and praise the 'brilliant move' by John McCain. :)
that was perfect Hash...wow
"if any hillary supporter wants to vote for mccain/palin now, then they are simply embittered, whining sore losers..."
but if this is true, why are YOU the one, here, embittered, and whining?
WIN WITHOUT US! '08
"favors the wealthy at the expense of the middle class,"
That's funny. As I recall, he opposed Bush's tax cuts with a very lib-like line: because it favors the rich.
He's for everyone getting wealthy.
And why is it the liberals always decent to gutter talk first?
Why, when presented with a fact, logical debate, and an honest opinion, is a lib most likely to trash the speaker, deride their ideas, and claim them to be stupid and out of touch with reality?
"And why is it the liberals always decent to gutter talk first?"
randy, your entire comment is snark, right?
His current position on tax cuts is....?
His stated tax policy if he is elected is.....?
He's no maverick.
Here is why Jay...she is a woman.
So I suppose your wife must have voted for Clinton in the primary, since you think women only vote for other women without regard for issues?
There are a nice number of women who would have voted for Hillary because she is a woman, and about 90% of blacks will vote for Obama because he is black...To answer your question, yes.
