MAINSTAGE REVIEW: BoyzIIMen performed at the Mainstage Friday night in what was (in my opinion of course) the best concert at the fair this year, maybe in many years. They have huge hits, they sold more albums than any other R&B group in history, and they still sound great. The show was nothing fancy, they simply came out in very nice suits and 3.5 million dollars of jewelry (I know, I talk to the guy who let them wear it). There was well done videos to go along with the songs, but basically they were up there singing and dancing.
They started off the show with motownphilly and got the crowd of around 4100 going crazy. The fact of the matter is their biggest hits are mostly ballads, so next came Bended Knee. After a few more song they did a great segment covering hits like Just My Imagination, WAR and I'll be there. They sounded great and even did the traditional dance moves. Other hits of the night were "Water runs dry" and "I'll make love to you."
They ended the set with "End of the Road." Our stage manager goes all around the country and world running fairs and music festivals, he said he has NEVER heard a crowd sing at loud as this (not to big crowd) of 4100...MAYBE 4300 did during End of the Road.
After the show they did something I had never seen before. Instead of selling T-shirts and such, they sold meet and greet passes for $40. They took out 80 of them and sold 80. Not a bad take for only 40 more minutes of work.
I am confident in saying if you liked B2M back in the day, or if you like R&B and you did not go to the show last night, you missed out big time.
