Analysis: Biden pick shows lack of confidence

The candidate of change went with the status quo.
In picking Sen. Joe Biden to be his running mate, Barack Obama sought to shore up his weakness - inexperience in office and on foreign policy - rather than underscore his strength as a new-generation candidate defying political conventions.
He picked a 35-year veteran of the Senate - the ultimate insider - rather than a candidate from outside Washington, such as Govs. Tim Kaine of Virginia or Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas; or from outside his party, such as Sen. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska; or from outside the mostly white male club of vice presidential candidates. Hillary Rodham Clinton didn't even make his short list.
The picks say something profound about Obama: For all his self-confidence, the 47-year-old Illinois senator worried that he couldn't beat Republican John McCain without help from a seasoned politician willing to attack. The Biden selection is the next logistical step in an Obama campaign that has become more negative - a strategic decision that may be necessary but threatens to run counter to his image.

too complicated

it's northeast "ethnic" white liberal catholics like me that are supposed to be "wooed" by obama bin biden

he is just as radical in his own way, with his fawning support of israel, his fixation on gun support, and his so-called "working-class" appeal

his old man was a rich man who lost it all, and biden doesn't have a pot to piss in, after 36 years in the senate

mike barnicle gleefully referred to biden as "the kind of man who knows what it feels like to max out a credit card", as if this were some sort of crowning achievement

and, unlike barky's core constituency, we don't like being finessed or pandered to

so, FAIL, obama bin biden, FAIL

but, if mccain foolishly selects romney or lieberman, we are doomed

I see you've picked up the talking points almost word for word. If he would have picked a different...say newer person on the scene your criticism would have been no experience. You guys are so predicitable and not convincing in the least. Mainly because all you do is attack so that is a lead pipe cinch. Ya, I know, in your world what else is there?
Even the non observant are catching on. You guys need a whole new plan. Yes, I agree so do the dems but at least there are a number of us working on it.

The polls are starting to show Obama can't win...he should have atleast a 10 point lead and he doesn't...there is some hope in America.

no talking points, ron, just simple common sense, an attribute you obamabots have in short supply

"If he would have picked a different...say newer person on the scene your criticism would have been no experience."

your unqualified quota candidate may just as well have, considering he basically nullified his "hopey-changey" message in one fellswoop, with a "washington insider", first elected in 1973

a "blue-collar hero" and "man of the people", who spearheaded the transformation of delaware into a tax-free corporate haven, rivaling the cayman islands

there go those witty "mc ancient" barbs

"You guys need a whole new plan.."

when MEchelle's anti-white rants hit the streets and barky's real hawaiian/kenyan/indonesian birth certificate fail to materialize, they'll be no need for any "plan", new or otherwise

not to mention that pesky texas caucus nastiness, which will lead to other pesky caucus nastinesses

"Yes, I agree so do the dems but at least there are a number of us working on it."

i agree, for you working on your plan guarantees the success of mine

we were the ones you WEREN'T expecting

Old hash...good to see you back..
the video available on what Biden
really feels about "OH NO" Obama is
not something that automatically
vanishes into the night..it usually
means that first impressions are actually what the person really feels..making nice later doesn't change the original true feelings
already on display...imagine that..

and i'm sure that we'll soon see video of all the negatives that romney said about mccain when mitt gets the nod. every one of you has blasted mccain here in the past so you are showing your usual hypocrisy.

there isn't one vp candidate that the rovians were not ready to come up with a story on.

i just heard mr "a noun, a verb and 9/11" say the biden choice shows weakness and clinton would have been the stronger choice. you know as well as you know that jesus loves you that if he had chosen clinton, obama would have been called weak and pussy whipped.

it's all politics and as ron says, the republican message is dems are bad, stupid, awful and wrong. yeah, yeah, yeah.

Hashly simpson-you're barkying at the moon. When I said we are working on it it didn't mean vote for McCain or someone who is not the nominee. Obviously you are not part of the solution of which I speak or you would know that. This post is word for word, practially, talking points. Watch the news or read the blogs, it was the first thing they all said and all the right wing talkers will surely make big news of it monday. That sounds like coordinated talking points to me no matter what your brilliant mind makes up. You do know that PUMAs spokesperson is the owner of a public relations firm and thinks very highly of her self and her work? I mean that is fine but for me I consider the source. I'm not thrilled with everything any one person did and can find criticisms of them all..Including myself! I'm not a big Barrack supporter nor big supporter of the Dems seeing as how theys won't impeach with the reams of evidence and testimony avaliable and that they go along and vote for the warrantless wiretaps and corporate immunity. Unfortunately the other party was the ORIGINATOR of all that evil doing(as the rightist likes to say). No candidate Dem or Republican(exception Kucinich) is speaking out forcefully on those issues the last time I looked. Good luck and please vote ...for whomever. Then you can experience my frustration.
Game, good luck with your polls. We'll see you election day.

go ahead, ron....

win without us!!

:)

country over party

Ron said...

I agree, country over party. That is why you will find much nashing on the Democrats on my blog. Anyone who supports the policies promised by McWar is not a democrat. That is a fact. With what they are doing lately I'm not sure I'm one either but for the good of the country I could not support the new McCain/Bush. If he would be what he pretends to be I might think about it but his votes belie his talk on most that I could find positive with his agenda.

If we must win without you we will.

"Anyone who supports the policies promised by McWar is not a democrat. That is a fact."

it's exactly your arrogance toward eighteen million voters who don't share your views that is causing you all to bleat like sheep, "how can 29% of these "low-information" bitters go vote for McSame"???

you wouldn't know the meaning of loyalty to country, you've long sacrificed such ideals for mack daddy, waiting in the wings

we'll take our party back, leave you to savage one another, or we'll move on, and forge a stronger future without you

so, win without us!

if you wind up with four more years of the dreaded republicans, it's your fault for putting forth and pledging fealty to an unelectable, unqualified sham candidate in the first place!

you'll have no one but yourselves to blame for your intransigence
