In picking Sen. Joe Biden to be his running mate, Barack Obama sought to shore up his weakness - inexperience in office and on foreign policy - rather than underscore his strength as a new-generation candidate defying political conventions.
He picked a 35-year veteran of the Senate - the ultimate insider - rather than a candidate from outside Washington, such as Govs. Tim Kaine of Virginia or Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas; or from outside his party, such as Sen. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska; or from outside the mostly white male club of vice presidential candidates. Hillary Rodham Clinton didn't even make his short list.
The picks say something profound about Obama: For all his self-confidence, the 47-year-old Illinois senator worried that he couldn't beat Republican John McCain without help from a seasoned politician willing to attack. The Biden selection is the next logistical step in an Obama campaign that has become more negative - a strategic decision that may be necessary but threatens to run counter to his image.

it's northeast "ethnic" white liberal catholics like me that are supposed to be "wooed" by obama bin biden
he is just as radical in his own way, with his fawning support of israel, his fixation on gun support, and his so-called "working-class" appeal
his old man was a rich man who lost it all, and biden doesn't have a pot to piss in, after 36 years in the senate

Hashly simpson-you're barkying at the moon. When I said we are working on it it didn't mean vote for McCain or someone who is not the nominee. Obviously you are not part of the solution of which I speak or you would know that. This post is word for word, practially, talking points. Watch the news or read the blogs, it was the first thing they all said and all the right wing talkers will surely make big news of it monday. That sounds like coordinated talking points to me no matter what your brilliant mind makes up. You do know that PUMAs spokesperson is the owner of a public relations firm and thinks very highly of her self and her work? I mean that is fine but for me I consider the source. I'm not thrilled with everything any one person did and can find criticisms of them all..Including myself! I'm not a big Barrack supporter nor big supporter of the Dems seeing as how theys won't impeach with the reams of evidence and testimony avaliable and that they go along and vote for the warrantless wiretaps and corporate immunity. Unfortunately the other party was the ORIGINATOR of all that evil doing(as the rightist likes to say). No candidate Dem or Republican(exception Kucinich) is speaking out forcefully on those issues the last time I looked. Good luck and please vote ...for whomever. Then you can experience my frustration.

I agree,country over party. That is why you will find much nashing on the Democrats on my blog. Anyone who supports the policies promised by McWar is not a democrat. That is a fact. With what they are doing lately I'm not sure I'm one either but for the good of the country I could not support the new McCain/Bush. If he would be what he pretends to be I might think about it but his votes belie his talk on most that I could find positive with his agenda.
