Bob talking to the crowd of 40,000+

Back in 1955:
Milk cost 92 cents a gallon
Break cost 17 cents a loaf
The average home was worth $22,000
Gas was 23 cents a gallon
And a brand new baseball glove was $9.95
But one thing has not changed between 1955 and today...Bob Uecker is still in baseball.
If you don't know who he is, check out this link.
Even though he did play baseball for a few year...most people know him as the voice of the Milwaukee Brewers and "Mr. Baseball."
Here are a few quotes from Bob Uecker over the years.
It was a great ceremony. There was a video presentation and speeches from baseball commissioner Bud Selig, Brewer owner Mark Attanasio and Bob himself...
Amazing to think someone could be working in the same business for 50 years...I just hope I can be alive for 50 years. Most people work a job for a few years and then move on for something better. Bob Uecker loved Milwaukee so much he passed up many national jobs that would have paid a lot more money to stay in Milwaukee.
The night was not perfect.
The Brewers then went on to embarrass themselves and lose 8-4 to the ATLANTA Braves. (Braves were in Milwaukee first, then moved to Atlanta for a better TV deal...anyone who lived in Milwaukee at the time hates the Braves).

Uecker was a pathetic player, but he is awsome for baseball........It's a shame the game has changed so much that those of his type have all but disappeared from the game.
And that type is: PERSONALITIES.
The Lasordas, Bill Vecks, Harry Carrey's, etc.
Instead we are stuck with a bunch of stiffs, like Costas, Larussa, Gammons types, who take the game too damn seriously.

Baseball is a game, and a damn good one when done right.
Unfortunately, the professional model we currently have is stale and boring.

Bob Uecker, a fellow graduate of Boys' Trade/Technical High School, exemplifies all that was and is still good around Milwaukee, things like loyalty, hard work, common sense, respect, values, and a never say die attitude. These are all traits that are missing in action far too often in today's youth.
nice point jager...it is funny you say he is a breath of fresh air when he has been around for 50 years...
