I was just sent this letter from Mike Sherman to Bill Belichick after Friday nights 27-3 beating:
Dear Mr. Belichick:
I hope you are happy with what you have done. We have been practicing and trying our best, and you go out and crush our self-esteem. We took it easy this week, had a lot of short practices followed by a lot of bonding time. We felt really good about ourselves. We knew that if we tried as hard as we could, we would be winners no matter what the outcome. Because trying is all that matters, winning is never the answer.
But now we are sitting here and we feel like we are losers. We feel like you are better than us. That is obviously ridiculous since everyone is special in their own way, and no one is better than anyone else.
Next time we play, I suggest that we do not keep score, and make sure everyone gets equal playing time. That way we can all have fun, and no one has to feel bad about themselves.
There are already player’s wives saying that they are going to protest outside your stadium because you made our team lose. You made these players feel like they were not as good as you…that they should work harder…that the only way they can win is to stay the course and give it all they have.
We were fine here keeping to ourselves, we even cut a few qualified players to allow a greater variety of friends to be in the locker room, so everyone could sit around and think about how generous and kind they are.
We do not condone your actions here today. Beating up on the enemy until they are beat into submission is wrong and cruel. If you were mad at us, you should have said something; we could have arranged a meeting to talk about it.
Now you’re just going to sit there and think about how you are “winners” and we are “losers.” Hope that hate-filled, war-monger attitude makes you happy.
With lots of love,
The Democratic National Committee…..ooppss, I mean Mike Sherman

What the Patriots did to the Packers was the wrong sport, at the wrong field, at the wrong time.
