Why are Bush's approval numbers down?

I believe it is the constant slant on the news. Hers are a few examples:

Networks Paint Bush Economy As Bleak No Matter What The Facts Really Say- even though the economy is booming, a majority of stories about the economy are negative...and I dare you to try and find a story saying that the economy is booming because of BUSH tax cuts.

Nets, AP Tout Sheehan's Achievements, See Revived Anti-War Effort Even though there is no evidence what-so-ever for a "revived anti-war effort," the press will trumpet out Sheehan as the leader of the cause they the liberal media prays to Allah would gain some ground. Then they could all put on their smelly hippie shirts from the late 60's and march around smoking pot.

Soldier to Lauer: "I'd Be Depressed Too If I Got News" from Media : The media constantly depicts the Iraq war as a quagmire, a failure...When soldiers are asked, they give a different story. They are the ones actually there, they know what is actually going on. But we have to sit here, read every story, watch every news cast say that we are failing...the media should start reporting what is REALLY happening instead of what the WISH was happening.

Newspapers give front page coverage to a protest of 16 people

I'm sure I can dig up more, but you get my point...Most people do not take the time to look into these stories, so they just assume that 60% of American's hate the war...but I bet if you asked those 60% what they do not like about the war...many will say they wish the United States would be more aggressive, go in there and kick some ass.

The average guy sits there and thinks everyone hates the war, everyone is protesting, and Bush is even screwing up the economy...why wouldn't his poll numbers go down.

I just wish things were on a level playing field...it is quite discouraging to always have to fight just to get your head about the water.

Yes...

It's the news that’s dropping the approval ratings...

Excuses excuses

How about this for a reason, as well:

Every 2nd term president has a drop in approval numbers.....It's a given.

Just wait. It is early in his term. Nothing to get upset about yet.

Besides, the democrats approval numbers are not going any higher.

The average U.S. soldier fighting in a foreign country gives Bush an 80% approval rating. What does that tell you?

I guess without regular access to the United States liberal propaganda machine the entire world looks like a much better place.

I think the biased lib news has a lot to do with Bush's ratings.

If all the good that's been accomplished in Iraq and all the progress that's been made were reported, his ratings would reflect that.

Same goes for the economy. If the story is constantly given such a negative slant, people will believe that the economy is awful.

In the end, I don't think his numbers really matter. Again, it's the lib media that play up approval ratings. It's just another part of their anti-Bush agenda.

no "B.S"...not excuses, but it is not a fair playing field...a republican has to be that much better than the liberal contender just to break even...that is what I don't like...I am going to guess that when the economy was good in the 90's the stories were not 65% negative...

Also, in "Bias" it shows that the first day Bush took office the media started reporting on homelessness...

When GDP growth is reported, Republicans received between 16 and 24 percentage point fewer positive stories for the same economic numbers than Democrats. For durable goods for all newspapers, Republicans received between 15 and 25 percentage points fewer positive news stories than Democrats. For unemployment, the difference was between zero and 21 percentage points. Retail sales showed no difference. Among the Associated Press and the top 10 papers, the Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, Associated Press, and New York Times tend to be the least likely to report positive news during Republican administrations, while the Houston Chronicle slightly favors Republicans. Only one newspaper treated one Republican administration significantly more positively than the Clinton administration: the Los Angeles Times' headlines were most favorable to the Reagan administration, but it still favored Clinton over either Bush administration.

No doubt the media cannot give any straight story that might contain good economic news. Watching the Today Show every morning one would think the only thing that drives the economy is gas prices. We all know every summer gas prices go up as demand goes up, it is higher this year but it certainly will begin to lower as the fall gets closer. Since pretty much everyone feels pain at the pump I am guessing that might be bringing poll numbers down couple that with the media harping on it every single day and people start to blame Bush. With all that said It really does not matter what his poll numbers are that is what I love about W he governs by what he and his team thinks is right for the country not by what the polls say (unlike clinton). so I do not worry about it.

I only worry about his numbers if those numbers affect his ability to carry out his policy...

If dems see him as weak, they will obstruct his plans even farther...it will be interesting to see what happens in the 2006 elections.

I like what realdebate posted about the polls being easily skewed. I learned how this is done in college. Back then, we (students) were expected to use only the research reports which had used unbiased designs. It was up to us to be able to identify those. I think the media does take advantage of all the uneducated souls out there. They simply feed them garbage statistics, and not being armed with the education to think it out for themselves, most believe it. I guess we should start teaching grade school kids statistics, so they can have a better understanding of it by the time they graduate, and are ready to vote. How about some nice, conservative private schools? My kids went to a conservative school, they are doing quite well. How much effort will it take to get more of these schools out there?

There are very few in this country? I do not think it would be that hard to start them up...but who would teach in them? I think all the conservative teachers fill the 3 schools there are right now...and there are none left...

I am in the health field...education actually...and spend time trying to show kids how statistics and polls do not always tell the truth..I am very well educated in this area as well...but I think the majority of American's still see any poll or any stat as fact...

It is the one solid way the MSM can still get people to believe them...most do not believe they are fair and balanced, but they will still believe the stories with poll numbers and stats.

Look at the poll samples as well. This latest sample giving the Pres 42%, was crap. 49% of the sample were Dems, only 32% I think were Repub's... not exactly a scientific sampling. Remember you can make polls say anything you want them to. I think the MSM is skewing their polls, because nothing else they are doing is working. Ask yourself who you have met who has changed their mind? My guess is no one.

OMG, Realdebate! I believe that once again, you are 100% correct! Skewing the polls would be the typical sneaky, underhanded way the left operates when they are losing ground. And for your question about who we know who has changed their minds.....excellent point. Thanks. I did just that. The answer? Not one single person. It was then that I fully realized Hey! The MSM IS trying to manipulate us into going along with what they put forth as the popular views. I suppose they believe this is a type of peer pressure? But we aren't 'kids', and don't really succumb to this sort of false peer pressure. Especially when allof us know how biased the MSM is. Anyway, thanks for the great message.
