Senate Weighs Measures Urging Bush Set Limits in Iraq

The U.S. Senate opened debate today on measures that would put the chamber on record for the first time asking President George W. Bush to set limits for keeping American troops in Iraq.

The Bush administration ``needs to explain to Congress and the American people its strategy for the successful completion of the mission,'' say resolutions introduced separately by both Republicans and Democrats.

Both parties also would require that Iraq's rival political factions be told they must make the compromises necessary to achieve a stable government, united against the insurgency, which will allow U.S. troops to leave.

What do you guys think of this?
Are the Republicans thinking Bush is weak and they want to distance themselves from them?
Is this the right stand?
Isn't this telling terrorist to just wait it out, and if you mess with America you can win?
This doesn't seem like a good idea. Our plan should be to stay until Iraq can take care of itself....there needs to be a plan on how to do THAT, but not a plan on how to get out.

Teaching someone to fish do squat in the desert, though. The reason for the delay had better be that they are fine tuning the system, and not because they are trying to force a rigid doctrine down everyone's throats. Having been in the military, its ok to give your life for anothers freedom. However, when the sacrifice is wasted because politics get in the way, that makes vets REAL angry.
