Poll: NSA Leakers are 'Traitors'

Americans overwhelmingly support President Bush's decision to wiretap suspected terrorists operating inside the U.S. without first obtaining a court order - and a solid plurality believe those who leaked news of the secret operation are "traitors," a Fox News Opinion Dynamics poll has found.
Asked whether the president "should have the power to authorize the National Security Agency to monitor electronic communications of suspected terrorists without getting warrants, even if one end of the communication is in the United States?" - 58 percent of those surveyed said yes.
Just 36 percent disagreed.
According to Dick Morris, who reveals the poll's stunning results in today's New York Post - even 42 percent of Democrats back the Bush surveillance program.

The results flatly contradict a widely reported Associated Press poll two weeks ago, which sampled a dispropotionate percentage of Democrats and concluded that the public objected to the Bush surveillance program.

In another stunning finding, the Fox poll found by that a margin of nearly 2 to 1, the American public believes that those responsible for exposing the super secret surveillance program have betrayed the country.

Fifty percent of those surveyed called those responsible for blowing the NSA's cover "traitors," while just 27 percent agreed with media claims that the leakers were "whistleblowers."
By a margin of 42 to 34 percent, even Democrats agreed with the "traitor" label.

Americans also strongly support renewing the Patriot Act by a nearly 2 to 1 margin [57 to 31 percent].

Glad to see the American people understand what needs to be done. Dem's on the wrong side of another issue. I think if they keep acting like far left PC crazies, the Right can save 2006.

Anamer...that's what the New York Times does, only they seek out Democrats for their polls. I don't place much confidence in polls. Newsmax sends me updates every day and I just delete them. I am conservative but they are as biased to the right as the NYT is the left. I want unbiased news. Hard to find but Fox comes close.

Once again you make the mistake of quoting NewsMax as your source instead of reading the actual polling information.

NewsMin mis-states the conclusion because they mis-state the question. The question was NOT "Do you support the president's decision..." The question was "Do you think the president should or should not have the power to authorize the NSA to monitor electronic communications of suspected terrorists without getting warrants..."

Like most people, I think the president should have this power IF Congress approves it and the Supreme Court says that it does not violate the 4th ammendment.

The poll question does not support any conclusion as to support for the president's decision. It supports the president having the power, but it does not qualify the question with legal restrictions. I believe the results could be quite different if the question was "Would you support the president's decision even if it was against the law, without Congressional approval and counter to the fourth ammendment to the Constitution?"

To the original Fox opinion poll question even I could answer yes (with qualifications). To my restated question I would have to answer no.

The Fox poll also phrases the Patriot Act question without qualifications.

I believe that for the most part the Patriot Act is a good thing, but I think there are parts of it that should not be included or extended. So is the Patriot Act a good thing for America? Yes. Is the Patriot Act a bad thing for America? Yes. The Act is a multi-faceted law, some parts are good, other parts...uh, not so much.

That 80% figure can also be explained as being a result of a day after dau assault in the media about supposedly losing civil liberties (even though none have been lost).

A typical tack of the media is to take a poll designed to get a result, then report from the same template for a certain period then take a poll to see if it had any effect. The nonstop bad news reporting from Iraq with a blackout on the remarkable successes has colored the public's view of the war.

It's shameful to see the MSM act like this. It's like they want to see us lose and see us get attacked again.

OK couple of things:

Mark M, you cant point fingers and say well he did it. Thats for children.

AAA, I love you but FOX doesnt balance news, they just report honestly when it suits them.

Jim, its like games poll wher he doesnt ask if its ok to tap a persons phone or soeting without a warrant. He asks if its ok to tap a phone fo someone who wants to blow up bridges in NY.
