Cedarburg teacher who viewed porn at school fired
I guess this guy looked at some porn a few times on the weekend and after school hours. This is definitely wrong, but should he be fired?
I think most of you will say YES, very firmly and strongly, because I sense a contempt for teachers from some in this group.
I guess the fact it was only a few times, no one ever saw it, and he seems to be a very good teacher make the answer harder for me.
There are not many outstanding, successful people getting into teaching anymore. I guess a suspension might have been a bit better...but I am not positive.
I do agree that unions do allow very bad teachers to keep teaching. This guy was a good teacher who did some stupid things after school hours.

Using ISD property to view porn is a no-no under any circumstance. The guy used really poor judgement just to get access to a faster connection. He's outta here.
I hope he wasn't an ethics teacher.
It makes it seem wierd that he only did it about once a month...if he was addicted to it or something he would have done it more...
Holy cow? How did they end up firing a teacher? He obviously didn't have the backing of the union.
What the guy does at home, on HIS time is his business IMO, as long as it doesn't effect his job or his job performance, but if he did it even ONCE on school time, adios asshat..
And if he in ANY way involved a student(s), hang him...

Union filing grievance in teacher's firing
Cedarburg - The Cedarburg Education Association will file a grievance in the firing of high school science teacher and former union president Robert Zellner, his attorney said this afternoon.
Zellner was fired Tuesday night after an evidentiary hearing in front of the school board where school officials said he used a school computer to view pornography for one minute and seven seconds. He was suspended from teaching on Dec. 20.
His attorney, Jina Jonen, said in a written statement that “Mr. Zellner admits he made a mistake and is willing to accept appropriate discipline for his actions. However, the facts in this case do not warrant termination.”
Jonen refused to explain how the grievance process would proceed, saying only that the procedure is outlined in the district's contract with teachers and that “it’s between the union and the district.”
In a written statement, the teacher’s union called the firing “anti-union retaliation.” Zellner was president of the Cedarburg Education Association when teachers approved a no-confidence vote against Superintendent Daryl Herrick.

I was just going to say that he was a big union guy...and that might have had a little bit to do with it.
I know I sound wishy washy here, but it also depends on what he was looking at. Maxium type picks...not as big a deal....actual porn...much bigger..
No kids ever saw it...you also have to take into consideration that it is almost impossilbe to fire a teacher. Maybe that is not right either, but that is a fact. Therefore, looking at stuff once a month without kids around deserves a one week or one month suspension, but until you change it that crappy teachers can be fired easier, he should not be fired
I admire and respect teachers. I often wish my career path had been different and I had gone into teaching. Fire him!

Gotta think alongside AAA here. Porn is such a bad subject, that even mentioning it can get a person fired. If the accusations are true, then forget it. Its not uncommon for a corporation to use it as a tool to get rid of employees they dont want. I guess Cedarburg is in the same realm. If there arent witnesses, but just 'big brother', then it shouldnt be valid.
Ha ha ha, this guy was one of my teachers. Wow!!! This is so funny! This fool should pray the union successfully clears his name so he can promptly move out of town and teach someplace else. I'm sure classes will be a lot more fun when you know your teacher likes to view porn.
I also tried it out, 1 minute 7 seconds and four websites. It was plenty of time...
