What happened to Katie?

Katie took Howard Dean to the woodshead recently.
Now, it is not hard to make Howard Dean look like an ass, but just look at how bad Dean looks here. Also, click here to get the video of the mental beating.

Katie was not appeased: "You know a lot of people say the Democratic party at this point in time criticizes all and literally stands for nothing. Even James Carville and Paul Begala - you can't find two more hard-core Democrats than that, Governor Dean - in their book wrote that the Democratic party needs a backbone and a spinal transplant. So what do you think the Democratic party stands for at this point in time?"
Dean had his laundry list ready, ticking off a spiel on jobs, national defense, restoring honesty and integrity in government, health care 'that works for everyone' and a strong public education system.
Couric then hit Dean with Hillary's grim poll numbers: "A new CNN/USAToday/Gallup poll shows 51% of registered voters say they would definitely not vote for Sen. Hillary Clinton for president if she runs in 2008. She's the front-runner among Democrats. Is that bad news in your view?"
Dean mouthed the words but couldn't keep a straight face when in response he actually claimed: "I'm sure she's not thinking of the presidency right now." Right.

Things heated up at the end of the interview. When Dean alleged that "all" of the people getting money from Abramoff were Republicans, Katie cut him off: "Hey, wait a second. Democrats took money from Jack Abramoff too, Mr. Dean."
Dean: "That's absolutely false, that did not happen. Not one dime of money from Jack Abramoff went to any Democrat at any time."
Katie had some figures handy to rebut Dean: "Let me just tell you. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, Abramoff and his associates gave $3 million to Republicans and $1.5 million to Democrats."
Dean: "Katie, not one dime of Jack Abramoff money ever went to any Democrat. There's a lot of stuff in the press that the Republican National Committee has been spinning that this is a bi-partisan scandal. It is a Republican scandal. Not one dime of money from Jack Abramoff ever went to any Democrat."

Now Rhyno, if you want to talk about a LIE, this is it. Keep it up Dean, you help the Right out every time you talk.

the argument jim will make is that xoff did not directly give the money to these people. It is a sad argument, and proof of any standards or morality...and doing and saying anything it takes to get back power.

Confronted by such intransigence, Katie politely observed that "we'll have to look into that and clarify that for our viewers." That's apparently just what the Today researchers did overnight, and Matt Lauer, with Tim Russert in tow, informed viewers this morning of their findings.

Said Lauer: "We went to the Center for Responsive Politics and technically Howard Dean may be correct but while 66% of the money in this situation went to Republicans, 34% of the money not from Abramoff but from associates and clients went to Democrats."

Lauer asked Russert whether Dems can turn this into strictly a Republican scandal and "wash their hands of this?"

Russert's response was unequivocal, and not good news for the DNC: "No. The issue is broad and wide."

Jim said...

These Democrats did not receive money from Abramoff. It's not spin. They did not get money from Abramoff.

I repeat, they did not get money from Abramoff. Got it?

So the research shows that Dean and I are correct.

Who the hell cares what Tim Russert says? He's on a network that you and O'Reilly claim nobody watches.

The spin here is the Republic spin that Abramoff money touches everybody so everybody is just as "guilty". The fact is that the Republics have all the power in the House, in the Senate, in the Administration, in the Courts, and on K Street, the center of special interest activity and money. Why would Abramoff, who is at the center of the Republic special interest lobby give money to Democrats who have absolutely zero power?

Your agrument makes no sense.

The Game said...

All I'm saying is that everyone who has researched this says xoff and his partners gave money to both sides....it happens all the time in politics...you greese up both sides to make sure you have enough votes to get things through...that is common knowledge...sorry it isn't for you Jim

Russert was on the Today show saying this....

If Dean keeps saying this, Dems will lose even more support...since he looks like an ass.

Jim said...

I understand that you grease both sides, when there is something to be gained by greasing both sides. But Abramoff has no need to grease Democrats since he's doing everything possible to make sure Democrats never have any power ever again.

But what you refuse to concede is that all kinds of groups, like Native American tribes, give money to Democrats. Reid as Senator from Nevada receives lots of money from Native American groups since Nevada's economy is based primarily on gambling. The fact that money came to Reid from Abramoff clients merely demonstrates the pervasiveness of Abramoffs connections and influence with special interests. Abramoff has so many connections to the highest levels of power and the administration, everybody wants to be his client. So it's no surprise that groups that gave money to Democrats are connected in some way to Abramoff.

I repeat my comment from the last time you mentioned Dean's rant.

"They are not near Baghdad. Don't believe them.... They said they entered with... tanks in the middle of the capital. They claim that they - I tell you, I... that this speech is too far from the reality. It is a part of this sickness of their plan. There is no an... - no any existence to the American troops or for the troops in Baghdad at all."
