Lets go back through history and see what would have happened if the Left won the argument:
1. Civil war would have ended early. Northern Democrats wanted to end the war right away. They said all the lives lost was not worth ending slavery.
2. Civil rights act would not have been passed...Republicans passed the civil rights act of 1964.
3. The USSR would still be around, maybe the lone superpower...Liberals said over and over (there are endless quotes of this) that we can not defeat Russia. We had to learn to work with them....(where have we heard that lately)...and we had to stop making nuclear weapons to keep the world safe. Instead, the Right built up the military and nuclear weapons, and that is what kept us safe.
4. Liberals want us out of Iraq....result???

1. The big thing to remember about the 1860's is that the Democrats were the entrenched, patrician and conservative party. The Republicans were the new, sharp and progressive party.
2. Signed by a Demacratic president. Also, many of those Democrats who were against the bill were Southern Democrats. They arent even close to liberals.
3. ...and now the weapons they built to counter us are finding their way into our new enemy's hands.
Number three is not true...Iran and North Korea are developing their own weapons...
We have more enemies than those 2. Plus, its been proven that most of Irans technology has been either developed off black market Soviet or from former Soviet engineers.
Speaking from a purely material and logistical standpoint, Iraq probably has sufficient army and police forces to keep the rebels at bay if we were to withdraw immediately. However the morale and political ramifications would be severely negative. The danger would not necessarily be Iraq falling into terrorist hands, but that we would lose what trust we have built up during this campaign, not only among Iraqis, but everywhere in the world. Other hazardous governments such as Iran, NK, China, Venesuela, Syria, etc view the Iraq conflict as a litmus test, if you will...waiting to see if we are serious about following through a course of action.
Integrity (say what you mean, mean what you say, do what you said you were going to do) is, in the realm of influence and order, more important than all the rhetoric and grandstanding in the world.
Yes, and if the right had their way, we'd still be slugging it out in Vietnam.
