Minutemen Gaining in Immigration Debate

Laurie Lisonbee worried about illegal immigration but figured it was somebody else's issue _ until she saw hundreds of thousands of immigrants and their supporters marching across her TV screen.
Soon, Lisonbee had recruited several friends to attend a demonstration by the Minuteman Project, a volunteer group that patrols the border to keep out illegal immigrants. Now, the 51-year-old art professor checks the group's Web site daily and plans a summer trip to the Mexican border to help build a fence.

Lisonbee, a registered Republican, said only one issue matters to her now.
"My vote will go to the candidate who's the toughest on immigration, whether they're Democrat or Republican," she said from her home in Orem, Utah. "Before, we were pretty much the types of people who would call our congressmen and not take to the streets. But that's all changed now."

I said this when it happened....those protests were going to piss off a large portion of America....most people are sick of illegal immigration....we know the Left is for illegal immigration, they were passing out pamphlets on how to vote for Democrats at the illegal immigrant protests...

But, why haven't the Republicans jumped on this...I said over and over, this could save November....DO SOMETHING BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE...

Well, you've already said that Republicans are pussies anyway.

What are you worried about?

I agree with you on the immigration issue Game, but as you know, I have my disagreements with you as well.

BTW: I am an independent, but somewhat left-leaning, I do have to admit.

I am totally against illegal immigration, as you know.

And, there are many more left-wingers I know who follow me on this issue, and it's about time.

But will you vote for a Republican if they took a hard stance?

I really, truely believe that the Right would save november if they started kicking ass on this issue..

but they are worried about parades, protests, media getting all over them...they don't get it...and that is why they probably will lose seats

Nope, I wouldn't vote for a single Repug or Dem, either one. I think they all need to go, and there's not a danged thing that will change my mind there.

One of the few people left in the world btw, who honestly will take a hard stance on issues -- what I said right above here is one.

Illegal immigration is another.

There's more, but don't care to voice them right now.

And I have yet to see any party in America do so -- in honesty, that is.

OK, I had this idea come to me. It would require considerable fortitude on the part of politicians, so I dont think it would ever happen.

What if every immigrant were allowed to live here, as long as they registered? As a registered immigrant, they could apply for citizenship, or a green card. In either case, they would be allowed to work, pay taxes, and have access to English in schools. However, these workers would not be allowed access to unemployment, welfare, voting or other burdens on the tax system. Would this appease anyone. It allows immigrants the ability to have a chance here, which is what they say they want, but it also denies them those things that outrage most people who are citizens. Plus, by allowing their children access to schools, they gain a leg up and should be more productive with time. Oh, and commit a felony on this program equals deportation, or your children. Maybe 3 strikes for misdemeanors.

Thoughts?

since we can't get rid of them it is not a bad idea...especially the part where they can't get social services...

that still will not solve school and health care strain...

and it should shut up all the liberals who say they all come here to work, and not to scam the system...if they are here to work, they don't need welfare and food stamps...

and we need to make it easier to be citizen...it seems way to slow and way to hard...

it should be hard, but not rediculous...

All legal immigrants have this. You're proposing we make illegal immigrants legal, for no price.

I have no intention of ever agreeing to that --

Plus, rhyno, how would you propose that these we put a stop to the illegal scarfing off our tax system (which is rampant)?

On a different issue with illegal immigration, a lot of illegals (and people in office) are using an excuse of "hey, we may be illegal, but we've been here for 10 years, 20 years, etc."

I don't care if an illegal immigrant has been here since they were knee-high to a grasshopper. They got here illegally or through illegal means to begin with. If they hadn't, their existence in the U.S. wouldn't even be an issue --

way to go on this issue dedanna
