When the president was asked at a Rose Garden question-and-answer session whether the anthem should be sung in Spanish, he replied: "I think the national anthem ought to be sung in English, and I think people who want to be a citizen of this country ought to learn English and they ought to learn to sing the national anthem in English."
Keep it up Mr. Bush...keep saying what you actually think and stop worrying about polls and protests...70% of America agrees with you...

Music to my ears

Have you found an mp3 of that damn Spanish version? I'd love to have a copy.
I've got a perfect place for it under my Lefties at my blog.
I'm very busy today...I'll try if I have the chance...
Que?
No se, rhyno. No intiendo.
Pero tengo una poema:
Roja, blanca, y azul
Que bonita es mi bandera.
Yo te amo y te respecto.
Simbolo de mi tierra.
Most school kids have been singing it in Spanish for YEARS:
Jose, can you see?
Scorpion says---
For those who are incompetent
enough to think this is trivial or
humorous I'll say to them"dupee
tish" as we all have our heritage of language.I will continue to use
my Spanish whenever I'm in a country where Spanish is the language of the country I'm in. Too
bad someone is "jumbled" enough to
imagine an intelligent person would
want to practice their other languages on this site.Imagine!
it is sad you think it is funny that people keep coming here who can't speak English, can't get jobs to support their families of 10, and all go on welfare...really funny Jim and rhyno, isn't it
Once again you display your bigotry and your ignorance.
there you go with your liberalism...when someone speaks the truth about an issue you don't like...its racism or ignorance...
anyone with a brain in their head understands the language of power is English...why would you NOT want the people you pretend to care about to be successful or powerful...when you given them a free pass, when you lower the standards for them, when you say it is okay that they don't speak English, when they don't have to try and become apart of this country, you weaken them AND America....
what do you DO Jim?
Do you work with illegal immigrants or minorities...78% of my students are minorities.
I talk to their parents, I talk to their families, I understand why they fail....you and your liberal ideas help them fail and keep them where they are...
Keep up the good work Game...I tried to teach in MPS and it is not an easy job to say the least. I'm surprised you were even able to talk with the parents, usually they were "convienently unavailable".
well, I guess I have to say I talk to about 10% of the parents...that is all that care.
And some of those didn't speak english...so their kids had to moderate the conversations...
I don't know why every minority in Minnesota is an ignorant, lazy, non-English speaking welfare cheat.
In California, it's different. I see many immigrants everyday. Many of them are probably here illegally. But they are all working, and working hard.
I was at the car wash today. Most of the workers were Mexican. They were working very hard in the hot sun all day.
I had some furniture delivered the other night. The men were Mexicans from Los Angeles. They drove from LA the night before and delivered 14 pianos from Monterrey to Napa to Stockton, finishing at 2 in the morning.
You know what was really cool? With my limited knowledge of Spanish, I was able to converse and joke with them a little bit.
I didn't give them anything except some coffee, conversation, and respect.
You talk like every Mexican, legal or not, is a welfare cheat. You talk like Mexicans want to FORCE you to sing the National Anthem in Spanish.
Your fear of Mexicans is superceded only by your fear of terrorists. Terrorists are really bad people who need to be exterminated with extreme prejudice. Do you think they are coming to Minneapolis to get you? If you do, it's because that's what Dick Cheney wants you to think. He said as much during the last election. He wants you to be afraid. He NEEDS you to be afraid. That's how he wins elections. That's how he builds and retains power.
The administration doesn't care about killing terrorists. It only cares about making you afraid of them. Check this out, how the adminstration had al Zarkqawi in its sights for months but did nothing for fear it would undermine its case against Saddam.
Ok, Jim, you've proven the point here:
Every damned one that you talked to was a mexican.
What about the now former majority of other cultures???
Or is reverse discrimination now so rampant in California, that there are no longer any?
What about those who got here legally? I don't give a damn how hard the illegals work. I give a damn about how hard those who are legal have worked all their lives, who have paid their fees, served their waiting periods, all to become legal in this country, just for the illegals to walk in and take it all away.
Screw dat --
And, I guess I should take my French education that I got all my life, and say screw it, too, just so illegals can be here from mexico, expecting me to bow down and cater to their spanish language?
Screw dat, too.
And, I suppose that you're going to say that illegals work so hard because employers pay them under the table as slave labor, so they have to work that much harder?
Screw dat -
If we started coming down on employers who do that, we start allowing those employers to pay them a liveable wage.
Screw dat -
They need to go home and work for a liveable wage there. If they want to be here, then dammit, they can become legal so they can get a job legally, with legal pay.
I am SO, SO happy that my meagre espanol was able to create such a vile anti-Spanish backlash. While I had no agenda, I really wanted to see what it would do.....
Spanish has NO place, except for New Mexico where its an offical language. Our crappy, but official anthem, is in English. Lets keep it that way.
From here, quote:
The United States does not have an official language; nevertheless, American English (referred to in the US as simply English) is the language used for legislation, regulations, executive orders, treaties, federal court rulings, and all other official pronouncements. Additionally, one must demonstrate an ability to read, write, and speak English to become a naturalized citizen. Many individual states and territories have also adopted English as their official language:
Several states and territories are officially bilingual:
New Mexico (English and Spanish)
There is nothing that says that spanish is the official language of new mexico.
There are two here.
With that being said, I've never been able to accept spanish as being even one of them. The only reason spanish is considered at all is because of the ancient history of new mexico, and the fact that so many illegals come in here.
New Mexico was once owned by a province of Mexico; however, that is not the only one who owned it (yet they act like it was here).
It was a U.S. territory until 1913, just days before my grandmother was born in November of that year.
I offer another thought here to everyone: English is considered to be the universal language all around the world. Why should we change that for people who are in a country illegally?
