Does it matter?
Some say it is just a movie...
Some say it is blasphemy...
Are the people who protest this movie trying to restrict free speech and the free flow of ideas?

yes
A few weeks ago a friend invited me to an Easter service, though I'm not a Christian. The sermon, surprisingly, was a rant about this movie. Supposedly it says Jesus married Mary Magdaline and had children and so forth.
None of this is true, of course, because if one reads the Bible, we can safely infer that Jesus was a homo. JC was busy recruiting others to be "fishers of men," and then when he met Mary Magdaline, a prostitute, he just had her wash his feet. How gay is that?
Seriously, though, there are more well known facts that should be giving Christians discomfort that aren't in the movie. For example, human beings can't walk on water, virgins don't give birth, and dead people tend to stay dead. I don't understand why they're freaking out over a piece of fiction when hard facts pose more of a problem for them.
Jason, two books for you. They will make all your religious friends froth at the mouth.
The Jesus Papers
Misquoting Jesus
another good one
The Gospel of Judas
Jason, kudos on this post!
I don't know man...I haven't gone to church (minus weddings) since I am 18...but reading that makes me want to go to church..
the thing that bothers me is not that the movie is fiction, it is that I think the movie tries to appear as a blend of fact and fiction...and the viewer is not sure when it is true or not..
A vast majority of the movie is completely made up without any documentation...yes, I'm sure a lot of the bible is made up, but atleast people talked about it, wrote about it, there was some verbal evidence...
Most of the movie is completely made up, but uninformed people will see it and think it is a documentary about the dirty, corrupt, evil, secritive catholic church...
"yes, I'm sure a lot of the bible is made up, but atleast people talked about it, wrote about it, there was some verbal evidence..."
Dude, read the two books. Its one side, but its the side you never hear.
Does the director of a movie need to begin the movie with a disclaimer that the following is a work of fiction so people who can't think or read for themselves won't be fooled into thinking they're watching a documentary?
I actually thought that today....and based on what I thought the answer is yes...
Lil web is right too...it would be nice if people respected and admired religion a bit more...if she is mad at what I said...I meant that many of the stories of the bible can not be proven and are probably made up too...but they are stories that send a good message, give them something to follow and guide them, and that is all religion is anyway...at least this one...
