The Whaling was destroyed today, and most people in this community could care less.
I lived in Hawaii for 2 years, where the man who painted the Whaling wall is famous.
Wyland goes around the world and paints whales and other marine life. He has paintings on the great wall of China.
While thinking about this story, I thought, what would happen if the gov't tried to tear down a Wyland painting in Hawaii. There would be complete outrage, it wouldn't even be thought of...
I kind of like the Hawaii way of thinking better. They care what their surroundings look like, their land, where they live, what they have to look at....I believe that is why they are happier...
I don't know...I know most of you think this is stupid...but think about how crabby and mean a lot of people around here, or even where you live are. People are happier and more polite....
Does it matter?
Should we worry about our environment and our surroundings?
Is one way better than the other?
I'm sure no one cares, but it is a huge cultural difference.

No offense, but no one cares about the whaling wall because it didn't belong here in the first place.
We're on a lake not an ocean.
Now a mural featuring zebra mussels...
...that would have been appropriate.
It took me a year of living in Hawaii before I started to relax...it is a totally different life...
I have that stress and weight back on my shoulders...5 days at the pro bowl isn't enough to take it away
yes, we live next to a poop filled lake...
see, in my opinion we need much MORE of the artwork and environment that wyland gives...
Actually, I couldn't care less. I seem to recall the mural donated by Wyland, and it was not nearly the dumbest or ugliest piece of public art around. On the other hand, it was on a rotting structure that simply had to go.
Now that ugly asterisk at the end of Wisconsin Avenue that marks Milwaukee as Bush League, that's another matter.
oh ya, that orange thing is very very ugly...but it seems to fit in with the rest of Milwaukee
Too many people in MIlwaukee are clueless about art, anyway. Does Milwaukee care? NO, but it definately detracts from where we were.
