MSNBC's Countdown Sees GOP 'Hard Turn to the Right' Alienating Middle America

On Friday's Countdown show on MSNBC, substitute host Brian Unger lived up to Keith Olbermann's habitually liberal standards as he portrayed recent efforts by Senate Republicans to declare English America's official language and to ban gay marriage as a "hard turn to the right."

He hearkened back to the "exclusionary rhetoric" of the 1992 Republican convention that spelled a "political disaster" for Republicans, and wondered if it could be "1992 all over again." Regarding the proposed gay marriage ban, Unger referred to it as part of the "far right's greatest hit list," and characterized the Senate Judiciary Committee vote for a constitutional amendment as "tossing social conservatives a straight-as-an-arrow bone.

"In spite of a recent Zogby poll showing 84 percent of Americans, including 77 percent of Hispanics, support making English the nation's official language, Unger teased the show wondering if Republicans would "alienate the American middle":

See, this is how media bias happens...everyone in the media is a liberal, so they think anything that is NOT liberal in thought it crazy far right wing non-sense...

This guy says Republicans will piss off middle American while 84% of them agree with Republicans...simply amazing.

Dude, you don't like what you hear on Countdown, turn it to O'Reilly.

Olberman is the only somewhat liberal host of an evening cable news show. So how can you say this proves liberal bias? That's nonsense.

Clint, your post is looney. You make a stupid statement about "all liberals" that is false on its face. The MSM is a corporate business institution. In the end, their decisions are based on stockholder value.

There is no liberal in the world who would claim that Kos, Soros or any of the others are un-biased. They may be independent of the MSM, but they don't even claim to be un-biased.

Jim, if the MSM is run on strictly business terms then why do they make such stupid business decisions. Sounds like the exec brass is more concerned about making leftist political statements than reporting the facts. The MSM is in the tank because they ignore the fact that the country is center-right. The fact is that MSM print circulation and viewer-ship are dwindling dramatically. NAME me a network news conservative that hosts the news or chairs a roundtable panel. You can't.

Olberman is a ratings disaster. He's on for one reason - view from the left. Just another leftist "journalist" with no one watching.

Kos and the rest of his ilk are the left's new bible - regardless of the facts. They fabricate anything to win. Just ask Jason Leopold and Madsen. Jim knows who I mean.

Once again, EH supplies all the rope needed to hang his own people. Of course, its all there. Now we know why Faux News is number one. Because, their business model is to whore to the Con ranks and pander to outdated and ignorant ideals that people desperately want to be true. Its all about financial and business acumen. Thanks Eh for explaining to us how Faux News was able to bring this valuable business idea to light, and showing how a news show can be on top WITHOUT HAVING TO ACTUALLY PRESENT THE NEWS.

Don't worry EH, rhyno is a lost cause.

If, by "lost cause" you mean "can not be swayed to our side" you're absolutely correct.

For me as well.

Brainwashing doesn't work on some people, and the right any more is too stupid to be able to sway people to their side anyway.

Bush couldnt find his way out of a dark paper bag, Clint. His dirty campaign staff, headed by Rove and his brother had a the major hand in it all. I wouldnt say either of those guys is the smartest dude in politics, either.

By 'those two' I mean Kerry and Gore.

I am still of the firm belief that the election was stolen by the neocons not only once, but twice.

But, that is for another time, another thread.

It's not my fault that GWB yes, is so stupid, that he has to steal two elections, and has to dumb down his own people to make them fall for it.

*bows to rhyno*
