Conservative commentator Pat Buchanan says illegal aliens in the United States are "engaged in a massive act of extortion."
He tells NBC that today's nationwide boycotts in support of immigrant rights will have "a tremendous backlash among the American people."
Buchanan says the protests and rallies are in support of illegal aliens, not legal immigrants.
Organizers of today's "Day Without Immigrants" events have called on supporters to stay home from work and school and stay out of shops to show how much impact immigrants have in communities.
However, New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson says he's worried that the boycotts will actually hurt efforts to change the nation's immigration laws. He tells CBS the protests could be a distraction from what he sees as the real issue: a need for what he calls "comprehensive immigration reform."
I agree with every word of this story. I am very happy that these protests can unite real, legal Americans against the invaders from the south.
Now if the RNC could get off its butt and get something done about this, that would be nice.
