Poll: Wide Support for National Guard Border Plan

Just another poll showing that the American people support conservative thought and values...if Republicans would actually BE conservatives, they would win in November.

A Time magazine poll taken last month shows that Americans overwhelmingly favor deploying the National Guard to the U.S.-Mexican border - an idea that is expected to be the centerpiece of President Bush speech to the nation on immigration reform Monday night.

62 percent of those surveyed told Time that they would back a plan to militarize the border. Just 35 percent opposed.

56 percent told Time that they would favor building a wall across the entire U.S.-Mexican border - not the just 700 miles of fencing proposed in a plan passed by the House in December. Only 40 percent opposed.

I vigorously support this proposal, as long as it comes with two conditions.

1. Our troops aren't sent there to be statues or sitting ducks....They must be proactive, be allowed to defend themselves, and be given cover if they injure or kill any illegals trying to come through them.

2. The troops must be a precursor to a Border Wall.......They should protect those constructing the wall, then take positions along the wall as it is completed.

Those of you who know me, know I am terribly worried about uncontrolled immigration......I also know we will never toss the 11-20 million illegals currently in the U.S. out.

That said, I would GLADLY give the 11-20 million amnesty without citizenship in exchange for a Border Wall, manned by our troops put on a full defensive posturing to protect the wall.

I would want the wall up FIRST...then there could maybe be some program...but ALSO, major penalties for anyone who hired illegals...
