WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A Democratic lawmaker under investigation in a bribery scandal said on Wednesday he would not comply with his party leader's request to resign his position on an influential tax-writing committee.
Louisiana Rep. William Jefferson rejected a request by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to step down from the Ways and Means Committee while the Justice Department investigates whether he took more than $400,000 in bribes to promote Internet technology in west Africa.
I have brought this up before, and the answer is always that both parties do it...but here is another example of a Democrat getting caught red handed, taking hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes, and not only does he not resign his job completely, but he won't even give up his committee seat. This does not happen on the right...last time I brought it up no one gave any intelligent examples.
so, why do Dem's act like this?

Tom DeLay didn't give up his leadership post until until he was actually indicted. Jefferson--red-handedness notwithstanding--hasn't been indicted yet.
I think Jefferson should have resigned completely from Congress already, but nobody really listens to me . . .
"This does not happen on the right."
Wrong! Thank you for playing our game!
Excuse me but can you tell me the time span between Duke Cunningham's (R-California) resignation from Congress and his conviction plea deal? Zero, zip, nada.
From CNN
Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham said Monday he is resigning from Congress after [emphasis added] pleading guilty to taking more than $2 million in bribes in a criminal conspiracy involving at least three defense contractors.
Has Bob Ney (R-OH) resigned? He's being investigated for bribery and corruption.
Go Jim!
Point is, the Republicans resigned when they were caught...I'm sure they were not caught on tape with hundreds of thousands of dollars...
Thanks to jay for being the only one to condemn the Democrat, dedanna and Jim do not have enough intellectual integrity for that.
Wait just a gol-darned minute here. Don't slander me by claiming that I don't condemn a corrupt politician. I never said that.
I only refuted your canard that corrupt Republics are somehow more honorable than corrupt Democrats. That's a specious claim as I have demonstrated by my two examples which you apparently ignore since you came right back and claim the very thing that I have disproved.
