We need to start giving the public a vision of how the world looks with Democrats in charge. Their foreign policy, for instance, involves surrender, appeasement, wishful thinking, and misunderstanding of the Islamofascist danger. Our agenda should push prosperity and freedom.
Our prosperity needs to be emphasized now -- that message alone will get Bush back to 40%. We also need to sell the big picture about the current world war raging from Russia to the Philippines to the Sudan to Iraq -- the media is leading many to believe we're involved in a manhunt gone wrong; the danger is a lot bigger than that.
Immigration is going to hurt us; the Dems will obstruct any bill and watch us bleed and attack each other. Hispanic voters are the future of the Republican party; Bush gained 34% of hispanic men in 2000 and 46% of hispanic men in 2004. Unfortunately, there are a lot of knuckleheads in my party that want elected Republicans to tell these people to fuck off or they'll stay home. I have no idea how to fix this.
what are you saying we do with immigration jason?
Game --
If I was advising people from a purely strategic point of view, I'd tell Republican politicians to bite the bullet on immigration and advance a "pro-immigrant" agenda in 2006; in the longterm this is in the party's interest. In the shortterm legalization of illegals will be bitter medicine for many to swallow, including myself.
But I like to win, too. The Dems will continue to obstruct everything related to immigration this year. If we push hard for immigration reform, we get no legislation and get painted as xenophobes, which will hurt us now and in the future. If we don't push for it, without the threat of a Hillary or a Kerry presidency, many Republicans will sit home in 2006. So we're basically fucked; we have to make lemonade out of lemons somehow.
My preference is to focus on the longterm and take a pro-immigrant stance and ride out the storm. The party currently seems to be trying to take both sides of the issue John Kerry style, which will only make everyone mad.
