There is a story in the Milwaukee Sentinel/Journal about a man who robbed a bank and shot at police. The headline of the follow-up story is:
Man's restaurant had licensing problems
Okay, nothing wrong so far...But when you read the paper, you expect the story to focus on important information...
I am going to paste the entire article here, and I will highlight how much of the actual important information is included:
Waukesha - A man jailed on charges that he tried robbing a bank in downtown Waukesha last month formerly operated a restaurant in the city with his wife that ran afoul of licensing requirements, city records show.
Nicolas Navarrete and his wife, J. Carmen, operated a restaurant at 1120 White Rock Ave. called Tagueria Tejupil Mexican Restaurant, and the couple encountered troubles with the city's Building Division over obtaining proper operating permits, according to city records.
Navarrete, 42, of Waukesha, is being held in the Waukesha County Jail in lieu of $1 million bail on charges stemming from the April 28 robbery of the Chase Bank at 101 W. Broadway, where Navarrete took more than $25,000, according to a criminal complaint.
Navarrete was arrested after leading police on a chase and at one point shooting out of his car window at a police officer driving beside him, the complaint says. After his arrest, according to the complaint, Navarrete told police that he got the bank robbery idea from a television show that led him to believe it would be an easy way to solve his money problems.
Navarrete was charged in the complaint with two counts of attempted first-degree intentional homicide, two counts of first-degree reckless endangerment and with armed robbery and fleeing.
Court records indicate that Navarrete has a second-grade education that he obtained while living in Mexico and that he and his wife have two children, ages 12 and 10.
A jail screening report says that Navarrete has lived in the Milwaukee metropolitan area for 18 years and at his current address on Dodie Drive in Waukesha for seven years.
Suspect is illegal immigrant
District Attorney Paul Bucher has described Navarrete as a high flight risk because of his ties to Mexico and his status as an illegal immigrant.
Navarrete, who has had court proceedings translated for him by an interpreter, is being represented in circuit court proceedings by the state public defender's office. Navarrete, who appeared in court Monday, is scheduled to return May 26 for a preliminary hearing.
The screening report says that Navarrete worked 10 months in the past year and lists his current monthly income as zero.
The Navarretes opened their restaurant early last year without a proper sign and change of occupancy permits. Also, the city did not inspect the business for remodeling or alterations that would have required a building permit, according to the Building/Housing Division letter dated April 6, 2005.
The couple opened in the former Jalisco's restaurant. They moved Tagueria Tejupil from the strip mall on Grand Ave., north of College Ave.
Two days later, Carmen Navarrete applied for a change of occupancy permit, and the building was inspected in late May. A list of violations was handed to the couple, including the need for a fire door.
On July 22, the Building Inspection Division notified Carmen Navarrete that the violations had not been corrected and the business could receive citations.
A second notice was sent Aug. 15 and a final notice sent Sept. 26 warning that the business owners had not complied with city requirements to obtain the permits and were violating city codes. City records stop at that point.
Although the couple had operated the restaurant nearly a year, city records say they did so without a liquor license. A check of Municipal Court records shows that neither was ticketed for serving liquor without a license.
The couple did not file a report with the city assessor's office on their personal property used in the restaurant that would have been eligible to be taxed, according to city records.
A sign in the restaurant window says it is under new management.
Circuit Court records show that Navarrete was sued in 2003 by Waukesha State Bank after he fell in arrears on payments for a $17,000 consumer loan he obtained in 2002. The lawsuit was closed in 2004 with the bank obtaining a $7,900 judgment, which still has not been satisfied, according to court records.
The man is an illegal immigrant, and the paper focus is on how he didn't have a permit for his restaurant...he has been here illegally for 18 years!!!!!
This is serious...the media filters the news we get, they decide what we need to know....do you think we should know that someone who has broken many, many laws including trying to kill police officers is here ILLEGALLY!!!!!
The liberal writers do not want people to think that all illegal immigrants are criminals..But how can the public make informed decisions and base opinions when they do not know the actual facts...
This is the deception of the liberal media....they want you to think a certain way (that all illegal immigrants love to work and never cause trouble)...so they sanitize the news to make you believe that..
It is dishonest, it is lying, it is a much bigger problem than most believe.
The American people are uninformed about what is really happening in this country, and it is in part due to the liberal media.

It didnt have anything to do with the story. By focusing on something that wasnt relevant to the story, THAT is being biased. Its called editorial, and its why normal people cant stand Faux News. Nobody reports the news there, they just editorial.
wrong, did you read the story (with link) that rated Fox news as the most trusted news organization...
Why wasn't the fact that he has been an illegal immigrant the story? Yes, the story wasn't about being illegal and THAT IS THE POINT.
The underlying truth in almost every news article having to do with George W. Bush is that he is incompetent, and yet it is almost NEVER mentioned. Certainly not on Fox.
I think that really shows a lot of conservative bias because Bush's incompetence is never brought out.
Oh well, what can you do?
now that would be an editorial, not a fact.
That this guy is an illegal immigrant is a FACT...I know you get these things confussed often
I never argued whether he was illegal. He is, it was mentioned. To focus an entire article on it is editorial.
Oh, and who gives a shit where Faux News is in the polls. It means nothing. Literally. You cant say something is better because its more popular.
didn't say better, but you like to say that EVERYONE knows it sucks, and NO ONE watches it for fair and balanced news, and no NORMAL people watch it...
