Now, not even Superman is American

Nevermind Superman's sexual orientation. Here's another identity-related question that is likely to spark controversy as the Man of Steel soars into theaters nationwide this Fourth of July weekend in Warner Bros. Pictures' "Superman Returns": Is Superman still American?

in the latest film incarnation, scribes Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris sought to downplay Superman's long-standing patriot act. With one brief line uttered by actor Frank Langella, the caped superhero's mission transformed from "truth, justice and the American way" to "truth, justice and all that stuff."

So, the liberal hate of America has even gotten to Superman...liberal hollywood hates the country that makes them rich so much, that Superman, who has stood for the American way for 70 years, does no longer...

Its so easy to see how great things used to be when people loved this country, and how liberal hate of their land chips away at us daily. There is no doubt that this country would not even be the strongest and greatest country in the world if liberals would have been around since the beginning...

somewhat related...more hate of America from our liberal colleges:

Since the 1906s, Marxists have taken over entire departments in countless American universities. It is disgusting.

It is obvious Hollywood doesn't like the American Way anymore either. They'd prefer the slogan changed to "the Iranian way" or "Hugo Chavez's way" or some other socialist nonsense.

It is only a matter of time before Captain America is changed to Captain United Nations.

Dude, you dont know your comic books. SM was a fighter for justice, and probably resembled those god awful Marxists a bit too much. During WWII, he became an American symbol, and that carried through large parts of the cold war. By the late 70's or early 80's, he was was no longer fighting for 'the American way". Much like Cons desperate attempts to keep 'under god' in the pledge of allegience, having Superman claim to fight for the American way isnt the reality of the situations origins.

I remember some part of an interview with Jerry Siegel, if I remember, done in the 1980's. He described that he and Joel Schuster were seeing a world turned towards large States, first the USSR and then Fascism spreading through Europe. Their families had emigrated earlier and they were trying to tell what made the US a great Nation. It is very telling that the first incarnation of this being was a villain... but later they thought and recast him as a hero.

They wanted to put together their immigrant feeling and honor some of their Jewish roots... and yet make something that showed the strength one got from a Free Land.

During the interview he noted it was not a conscious thing they did, they just wanted a good story that would, maybe, earn them some money. And so that entity from the planet Krypton came to Earth and demonstrated the strength one got from leaving their homeland to come to a Free Nation.

Their story is the essence of the immigrant from those days before quotas and such were put in place. One was not illegal for arriving here like he did as a babe, but very closer to Moses sent out to be saved for greater things. Unlike Moses, he needed to lead by example so that no matter what his strengths they were accountable and put forth for the cause of good.

And not paying homage to the George Reeves incarnation that added that tagline we know him for, is a sad, sad day for the filmography of this lineage.

jacksonian man...where do you get your history? No quotas in the 20's and 30's?

Okay. One quick lesson.

Movies are made to make money. Domestic gross dollars are only a small part of the money a film will make.

Most of the rest of the world isn't real happy with "The American Way" right now.

More money can be made by dealing with global reality.

End of lesson.
