From the NYT's
"HezbollahÂs reputation as an efficient grass-roots social service network -- as opposed to the Lebanese government, regarded by many here as sleek men in suits doing well -- was in evidence everywhere. Young men with walkie-talkies and clipboards were in the battered Shiite neighborhoods on the southern edge of Bint Jbail, taking notes on the extent of the damage
Sorry conservative friends...but I have to say that the NYT's description is right on...Hezbollah has support because they have good PR. They do what some Democrats have done for years...they are buying support. Hezbollah is getting money from Iran and Syria, Dem's get it from the rich and give to the poor.
There are more similarities. Dem's programs cause poor people to stay poor.
They are embedded in a world of learnedhelplessnesss. They are not expected to accomplish anything, and they are happy with the free handout. I see it every single day and people like dedanna have agreed over and over when I bring up specifics likewelfarer, low expectations in schools, the projects, and leaders making excuses for them.
Hezbollah caused the problems for the the people in Lebannon by kidnapping soldiers.
Now libs...lets try and calm down before we post here this time.
I am not saying that the Democratic party is a terror organization. I believe they have good intentions and want the best for all people. But I have posted MANY times about how liberal programs actually hurt the poor in the long run, and I usually get very littleargumentt and even some agreement from you. Also, I do believe both groups have the same tactics in getting support (votes).

Well game, you seem to want to do anything to win the "war on terror". If their methods are successful maybe we may want to try it ourselves? It would not result in massive deaths of Americans, couldn't possibly cost anymore and might actually work?
I never said the methods were not effective...how does the saying go...you get more from sugar than ???
Oh, and I suppose building a $250 million bridge to nowhere in Alaska doesn't buy any votes.
Get real Game.
And by the way, how is OUR government (with the Republics in power) doing for the people in New Orleans and the gulf coast. Little if anything. It's no wonder Hezbollah has popular support in Lebanon and the Bush administration doesn't have popular support here.
All politicians buy support. Its kinda tied in with the whole concept. Pubs take from the middle class and give to the rich while shitting on the poor.
ron and rhyno contributed a bit...Jim, come on...stop acting like a baby
Rhyno, what a kook. Pubs take from the government trough and give it back to the people from whom it was taken.
Marshall what a kook...you think your side is pure and clean in everyway...naif.
Game: ????
marshall, you are flawless so far on this blog.
ryno, obviously Marshall has been talking to sycophants or he wouldn't even have tried that one...boy is he in for a suprize!
Look kids (you must be kids based on your understanding of taxation), taxes are made up of OUR money being sent to the government for whatever it is they do; infrastructure, maintaining the military, billions of stupid liberal programs, etc. Most of this money is from a small percentage of Americans, because liberals decided that wealthy people, most of whom have created their own wealth through their sweat, determination and hard work, are somehow obligated to pay a greater percentage of their money, than do those who make less money. The first thing they forget, is that if everyone paid the same percentage, the wealthy would still be paying the most (10% of 1,000,000 is more than 10% of 10,000). But that's not enough for the libs, who believe that wealth can only be created by fucking someone else. Thus, they must be forced to pay a higher percentage. The second thing they forget, is that it is unAmerican to suggest that someone else pay for your mistakes, lack of ability or lack of desire to develop ability. The third thing they forget, is that if libs believe in all their stupid programs so badly, no one is stopping them from sending the government more of their own money, but they won't do that, they're only concerned with what other wealthy people do. Finally, the fourth thing they forget, is that when there is a tax cut, it is simply giving back what belongs to the people who were taxed, an amount based on what they paid to begin with. So the right, or their gov reps, aren't taking from one group and giving it to another. They're giving someone's money back to them. It's funny that I've never heard of a lib sending back his tax refund at the end of the year. You get a refund for paying too much taxes throughout the year. A tax cut means you won't be overtaxed througout the year.
Further, the feds aren't effecient doling out our money in welfare (doling, to dole out, being on the dole, as in Public Dole. Time was when most people were too proud to be on the Public Dole. That was a time when most would never think of themselves as victims incapable of dealing with their financial problems.) Thus, community and faith based charities are better for serving the truly needy. The rest need do what the less needy do. At my unacceptable salary, I still give to a small variety of causes. When I earn more, I'd rather give more to those causes than to have the feds take more for things I don't believe in or I feel/know don't deserve it. But again, when you guys make more, feel free to send along more to the government and keep your hands out of my wallet. Thank you.
BTW Ron,
I don't think "my side" is pure and clean in every way. I do believe our philosophy is far more beneficial to our society and thus far has been proven so. It's no secret that anyone can fall to temptation or stray from the path, but that's not an indictment on the path. Doing the right thing isn't always easy, but it's always worth doing and it always pays off when done. I don't believe the philosophy of the left, particularly as the left is made up today, is beneficial at all. We can debate THAT sometime.
Before I forget, Ron. Regarding your very first comment on this thread (THE very 1st comment), I just heard today that our country is sending financial aid to Lebanon. So there you go. We'll see how many hearts and minds are won as a result, as if we've never sent aid to Muslims or Arabs before. Let's hope they don't just stuff it in their pockets ala Yasser Arafat.
Marshall, since EH decided to quit here, I guess you get to be the village idiot from now on. The middle class bears the burden of taxes in this country. Though, occaisionally, some politicians will shift it more towards the rich and corporations, where it is deserved. All you did was back up exactly what I said. Note to all, by rich I mean those making more than 100k per year. Perverse Pubs like to take the govt angle of 60, or something. Thats BS. Without oversight, this govt will pork us all into oblivion.
Re hearts and minds..gander here
LINK
rhyno,
Your last comment shows who the real idiot is, and it would be hard to take your place.
As a lower middle class citizen who until about 5 yrs ago had a household income of 100K, I can assure you that that amount of annual income is nowhere near rich. It might seem so from your mom's basement, but once you begin living and working in the real world, you kow what I'm talking about. To support my small family, 100K would pay the bills, allow money to be put away for the kid's college ed, 1 decent 1 wk vacation per yr guarunteed, allow money to be put away for emergencies, and not live life as if taking out the wife once a month would break the bank. But if you want to say 100K and up is rich, then you're talking about a very large percentage of American households and almost all the tax burden taken care of. Here's a little asignment for ya: Go look up what percentage of the tax burden is paid by the top 1% income level. Then we'll talk.
Ron,
Great link. Thanks. That's the kind of thing the greedy, arrogant Americans do on a regular basis. Notice how it's a Muslim country. So, while we're kickin ass militarily, we're also helping people out financially. This is just the balance to get things done. What is needed, is for all my lib brothers and sisters to keep this aspect of our country in mind when they feel like trash talking America. Hey, would an imperialist nation do this kind of thing? I think not.
Ron's link remind us how America is the kindest, most generous nation in the world
Remember that liberals as you bash us and say how terrible we are...
And marshall, I have posted the taz burden breakdown many many times, rhyno and other liberals ignore it because it doesn't fit their playbook
Please note that what draws the to the Americans is good will. It is noted in the story that the war drives them away. Another point is we cant just "send stuff". We need Americans to distribute it and as in Pakistan actual American doctors to offer the services directly. These are the things that make me proud to claim America. Giving life and not death to people in a bad situation. Pre emptive war makes me ashamed..yes, makes me feel shame...and guilt. People anywhere and everywhere will side with those that lift them up not those that tear them down. A fundamental reason that our current stay the course will continue to be a massive failure. I WANT us to succeed and human nature should be a huge clue on how we do it.
Marshall, I have not lived in moms basement for many years and many people who make less than that don't. Believe it or not they get by on far far less than that. I can tell you that in the radio business 100k is an almost unheardof salary(another reason you don't want to do it). I would say 5 or maybe 10 percent tops of the on air people make that much. Those are people that are syndicated or in top 20 or 25 markets. If you can't make it on 100k I really could teach you something! :-)
Ron,
I was directing the basement comment to the enchanting ryhno, or at least intended to. In the greater Chicago area, 100K for a family of three to five is about what it takes to more "live" life than just get by. I could move out to the boonies and survive more easily, but that hour and a half commute would suck. I suspect that on the coasts, 100k might not be quite enough to live as I described. Sure, we could get by on less and are doing so now. Ain't fun. Ain't really livin', if you know what I mean. Also, ain't looking for gov help.
Referring to your other post, I would say that I agree with your sentiments to a point. Who wouldn't run from the violent stuff and flock to the handout stuff? But if our aid people aren't explaining why our troops are there with guns breaking things, then they aren't doing their jobs properly. You CANNOT remove the military presence until the reason for that presence is resolved. WE are not CAUSING anything. We are rectifying what was caused by the scumbags. The scumbags won't be reasoned with. Anyone who can be reasoned with is being reasoned with. And frankly, from the reports I listen to, from "boots on the ground", there are far more civilians that appreciate our military presence than your lib sources will admit to. They can't. It hurts their argument.
