Honestly, why does conservative talk radio thrive and liberal talk radio go bankrupt?
My take:
Liberalism is based on emotion. You can only SAY so many times the same talking points. You can only say you hate Bush and bla bla bla so often.
Liberalism doesn't work on radio because you need to emotionalism of pictures and video from TV. You need that emotional attachment of the visual sense to go along with talking points, car bumper slogans and other rhetoric.
Conservative talk radio presents ideas and an explanation. It is not emotional, it is logic based.
If I am wrong when why is it successful while liberal talk radio is not?
Liberal answers:
corporate America won't let liberal talk radio thrive....WRONG...anything that will make money will be the friend of corporate America...liberal talk radio doesn't make money, so it is gone.
There are way more racist white people to listen to conservatives than there are progressive forward thinkers to listen to liberal radio....REALLY? But I thought more people registered as Dem than Repub....I thought Dem's were going to take over the House and Senate? Doesn't that mean there are all these people who agree with liberals? Again, answer is no.

Glad to see you are reading Think Progress, one of my favorite daily blogs. Too bad none of it seems to sink in or maybe your reading comprehension ain't so good. From your link:
Air America responds.
"If Air America had filed for bankruptcy every time someone rumored it to be doing so, we would have ceased to exist long ago; it may be frustrating to some that this hasn’t happened. No decision has been taken to make any filing of any kind, we are not sure of the source of these rumors and frankly can not respond to every rumor in the marketplace."
Also from Think Progress:
"The right wing is sure to seize on Air America’s financial woes as a sign that progressive talk radio is unpopular. In fact, Air America succeeded at creating something that didn’t exist: the progressive talk radio format. That format is now established and strong and will continue with or without Air America. Indeed, many of the country’s most successful and widely-syndicated progressive talk hosts — Ed Schultz and Stephanie Miller, for instance — aren’t even associated with Air America.
"Radio giant Clear Channel is so committed to progressive talk radio that, this week, it will announce a partnership with the Center for American Progress and MSS Inc. to conduct a nationwide search for the next Progressive Talk Radio Star."
Game, you might want to post this for kicks and giggles. Oh, and break out your tinfoil.
Air America should have filed for "importance bancruptcy" a long time ago.
It may or may not be in financial trouble, but it's ratings are brutal either way.......Sort of the old saying:
If a radio program is on and no one listens, does it make sound?
Or something like that.......Sound it may not make, but there is plenty of noise coming out of Air America.
another page out of the playbook of liberals...just say something even if it is false, and it becomes true.
Liberals love to SAY Air America rating are strong, yet the FACTS and numbers show that they are listened to by less and less people...
"If a radio program is on and no one listens, does it make sound?"
LOL!
Well, how about we use the independent unbiased word? Arbitron should have Air America Radio's ratings somewhere at their site.
Then we'll see who bitches.
Like it matters anyway. *rolls eyes*
Or, just run a search for Air America Radio ratings. Up to you.
According to Wikipedia:
In Arbitron's Winter 2006 ratings book, the most recent available as of May 2006, ratings at Air America stations nationwide average about a 1.2 share in markets for which Arbitron reports results four times a year (although this reflects the ratings received by each station as a whole, including any non-AAR programming stations carry between 6 a.m. and midnight as well). Some of the network's highest ratings coming from stations in Portland, Oregon (where station KPOJ ranks second among AM stations and sixth overall); Seattle, Washington; and Madison, Wisconsin. Ratings for AAR affiliates have been low primarily in markets where stations have been hindered by signal limitations, such as Philadelphia, Boston, Atlanta, and Washington, DC.
If you don't want to believe this, then go look at Arbitron or R&R yourself.
Al Franken this morning
Air America Radio, the liberal talk-show network, is fighting off bankruptcy, the face of the network, Al Franken, told The New York Sun yesterday.
Now, stfu about it cuz who gives a crap anyway.
Also, see game's favorite source from yesterday: Air America Denies Bankruptcy Report late yesterday:
Air America Radio, the network that features such liberal mouthpieces as Al Franken and Randi Rhodes, is denying reports that it will declare bankruptcy.
Seems that Buzzflash was just a little off with it's 3 sources.
The blog site Radio Equalizer said it could not verify the bankruptcy claim
dedanna, is 1.2 good ratings to you?
Some of the network's highest ratings coming from stations in Portland, Oregon (where station KPOJ ranks second among AM stations and sixth overall); Seattle, Washington; and Madison, Wisconsin.
Must be -- considering they're still a relatively new national talk show program, and they rank as they do in the above markets.
Compare that to other national radio media, then go from there.
Doesn't matter anyway.
They're not filing bankruptcy, which was the main point of this thread.
Sorry to tell you.
Try looking here at their rankings. True, some are quite low, but look at the places where they rank in the top 10. NYC, Atlanta, they're #11 in Boston, Detroit, look where they are in Miami, Washington D.C., #3 in Chicago, Dallas, L.A., San Fran. Not an easy thing to do.
They did note in the wikipedia article that the low rating areas are due to poor signals in the areas.
If I were to go back to radio, I'd work for them, even with their financial woes.
you would not get a paycheck every now and then...and they are pathetic compared to talk radio...sorry, facts are facts
Hey, there's a LOT more to broadcasting career strategy than just a paycheck.
if your talking about a career working for air america won't get you far since they won't be around much longer...
Oh, I think they'll find a way to cure the financial woes & be around a while longer. They're not declaring bankruptcy, and even if they were, it doesn't necessarily mean shut-down.
Game,Being in the busines I watch ratings in markets all across america. You know what format consistantly gets worse ratings than Liberal talk? SPORTS!!!! That's right sports stations in most markets except the very biggest rarely get a 2.0. Does that mean sports is worthless, nobody likes it or listens and we should take it off the air? The air america station in Albuquerque has doubled their ratings in the last year in a purple state and is well above the better established sports station. Believe it or not the part noted about signal strength is a huge matter. Conservative talkers are on the 50,000 watt regional signal and liberal talk and sports are on the 1,000 or 5,000 watt local signal.
That said the possibility exists that liberals, never having a radio outlet have a habit of getting their information in different ways. The conservative radio model is well established. It is the primary driver for conservatives. That is another huge advantage. I think there are plenty of liberals and it has absolutely nothing to do with "emotion". Conservative talk is chalk full of "emotional" appeals wheather you will admit it or not. Appeals to patriotism and being a good American is an emotional appeal. That is just a couple of examples. Sean Hannity is a walking(or sitting) emotional basket case, so is Lil orphan anne. I think it is because it is not habit for liberals to get their information that way as it is for the conservatives.
Of course I am all wrong and just wasted all this finger exercise trying to point something out to you.
Thank you, Ron. All the things I was trying to tell him and didn't have the right words, I guess.
ann coulter does not have a talk radio show...
you are right, sports stations get the worst ratings in every city...
they have a small audience, just like air america...meaning very few people who actually want to listen to them
I can't find your point for the trees. What are you trying to say?

This is the point, and if it isn't, it should be. Should end this thread and topic right here and now.
That doesn't appear to be the point that Game is trying to make dedanna. It appears to me that he is trying to say that liberal radio is failing as a business model and that is tatamount to the failure of the philosophy as a valid one. Of course that is pure hogwash and narrow thinking but what do you expect. d to the umb.
Title of this thread:
"Air America To Declare Bankruptcy"
Fact:
They're not declaring bankruptcy
Title of this thread:
A lie
That's my point. So, hence, anything else in this thread is moot, too.
