Deep thoughts

Gas prices continue to fall, and there is one group of people who can NEVER take any credit for falling energy prices....liberals.
They are against every single measure that can lower energy costs.
They are against nuclear energy, which has NEVER caused ONE injury, NEVER had ONE leak or problem.
They are against drilling ANYWHERE or refining ANY oil EVER. I think the fact that our Republican controlled govt has FINALLY started building refineries and will start drilling a little more has helped a bit at lowering gas prices.
Many liberals have been quoted admitting they like high gas prices and want them even higher so that people conserve and look for alternate fuels.
Its fine to take that stance, just admit it and dont try and get any political gain for lower gas prices.

I'm in a quandry over this one. I guess I'm in-between; can see points on both sides, and the vote is still out on it in my mind. I have to think on it for a good while.

I'm enjoying the lower prices for now, but wonder if they will hurt us in the long run even worse. Note that I didn't say that this would happen, just wonder if it will.

I don't think it solely a partisan problem. I think it has to do with the problems around the world today in general, which are so many that it would be impossible to discuss them all in one post here. Watching the b.s. fly between the two parties isn't helping matters for my own mind; it only makes matters worse. I need to look from all angles at it.

there is no doubt that global issues can instantly affect gas prices more than anything that our govt does..
However, we should be doing whatever we can to help the middle and lower class when it comes to energy costs...
We SHOULD be working on cheaper sources and alternative fuels...but we also can't be held hostage by environmentalist liberals

And dedanna, you sould like many people when they think that some things are not a political issue...EVERYTHING is...
look at every vote for drilling...always political vote

We could be energy independent if the Democrats and estchetes (I know I spelled that word wrong.) with their "Watermelon" friends would get out of the way.

E85 is one thing we can do now. Actually, why not E100?? Look at dragsters and indy cars. They run on alcohol.

I don't see it entirely as a political issue, and don't think the general public would either, Game.

I think that the general public would also have problems bashing liberals for it, or cons for it, but wouldn't have any problem bashing both. See what I'm saying here?

The market will take care of everything.

The profit motive will be what creates the next great energy source. Someone will get rich as a result and someone else will raise that person's taxes.

the general public is stupid dedanna, 85 percent of them don't know much of anything

Some people have been against nuclear power, probably oil companies as much as environmentalists.

Nuclear power never caused ONE injury, NEVER had ONE leak or problem? I wonder what the people of Chernobyl would say about that.

Some people are against drilling anywhere, others, including myself are not.

I'll admit that I favor higher gasoline prices for just the reasons you have mentioned: so that people conserve and look for alternative fuels. Because you see, I believe sometimes the common good is more important than the wallets of America's SUV owners.

I don't drive an SUV. I drive a Saturn L200. I use my car in my work, and even with the good gas mileage I get with the Saturn, the 3.00 gas prices were killing me. Raising prices to force conservation doesn't help those who need their cars for jobs, it only makes their lives hell. I don't know anyone who goes out for joy rides anymore. Artificially raising the prices is the worst of all. Let the market determine price and encourage the creation or discovery of alternatives. Some of us still need to feed our families. Don't fuck with prices.

I wish they were 10 dollars a gallon then we would have no other choice but to move quickly and forcefully forward. Some think we will solve the problem with drilling. There is no way we can drill enough oil to take care of all our own needs without drastic conservation measures. Time to get on with the 21st century. I am not for artifical pricing though.
I think people are totally underestimating how much in peril we are in right now. If the terrorists really want to destroy us all they have to do is blow up a couple or three big Saudi oil facilities and we are sunk. Forget about oil completely and move to the future if you don't want America to be a dependent nation anymore.

I am very distressed that we are dependent..for everything... from oil to a frickin pair of socks. This is not even close to the greatness of America. I know,I know, it is a global economy now. Right and we are losing the game. We are making moves that make us weaker by the day with all kinds of shitty foreign policy decisions. From the war to oil to importing low priced labor to exporting jobs to the intentional derision of science. All people want to do is say "someday" ,but for now. Well if someday doesn't come soon we are all in deep shit so get off the stick and insist on it if you love your country!

Gee, gas goes up after Katrina knocks out or damages several drills. After a year, some service is restored and gas goes down. Yeah, lets hand it to the Cons for rolling up their shirtsleeves and doing all that hard work they are known for.

The libs here are ignorant of the laws of the free market, especially the misinformed rhyno. Katrina and the Hurricane the immediately followed damaged several refineries in TEXAS. The fool, rhyno, doesn't understand that we were running about 100% of refining capacity to meet demand before the hurricanes. Demand only recently slacked and inventories built up thus decreasing price.

But, not in the Central Government controls all delusions of jim, ron, and Rhyno. No, they see conspiracies all around them.

I drive a 1995 Mitsubishi Mirage that gets good mileage.

Yuppie liberals who drive SUVs are the ones who think they are *entitled* to low gas prices. Liberals think they think they are entitled to everything, so why should gas prices be anything different. Me Me Me Now Now Now is the modern liberal motto.

So when prices are low, liberals will clamor for high prices to save us from the always imminent capitalist apocalypse their Marxist religion teaches them. But when prices are high, they will blame Bush and the sinful capitalists for oppressing the noble proletariat.

Democrats can only do this stuff so often before the public catches on. Logic is not a "social construction" my friends.

In the UNITED STATES JIM...guess I didn't clarify that

I would love Dem's to actually go out and say what JIm and Ron are saying...and that is liberals WANT high gas prices...Dem's lie about who they are by getting mad in public about high gas prices.

Don't you admit this is false anger?

My daughter drives a 1988 Thunderbird in Los Angeles. She gets 25MPG in town and 31MPG on the highway. I verified it myself by driving the car from Iowa through NM to CA. It is a bone stock from the factory car.

American cars do get good mileage when properly maintained. My brother had a 76 Chevy Chevette that someone pulled off ALL the anti-polution parts from it. It used to get 45 or more MPG at 75 MPH.

Sometimes this PC environmentalism hurts the environment and economy more than their mandated cures.
