Is it over for the GOP?

Poll: GOP in 'Foleygate' Meltdown

WASHINGTON -- Democratic candidates have a big edge on Republicans one month before elections to decide control of Congress, a flurry of new polls said Monday, with ratings for President Bush and Congress dropping after the Capitol Hill sex scandal.
A USA Today/Gallup poll gave Democrats a 23-point edge on Republicans in the battle for Congress, while a CNN poll gave Democrats a 21-point lead.
A ABC News/Washington Post poll found Democrats held a 54-41 percent lead in the congressional horse race among registered and likely voters, which ABC said was the biggest Democratic lead this close to election day in more than 20 years.
And a new CBS News/New York Times poll showed 79 percent of respondents thought Republican leaders were more concerned with politics than the well-being of the teenage congressional assistants who received lewd messages from former Republican Rep. Mark Foley of Florida.

Will Dem's take over the house and senate because a gay guy likes to send emails to pages?

It would be a sad indictment on the intelligence and integrity of our voting population. Though polls are typically worthless, I shudder at the thought of those who might actually be influenced by them. At the same time, I'm a bit hacked that there is no Republican who is out front speaking articulately about the need for GOP success, or even the dangers of Dem success, in controlling the House and/or Senate. The party needs to be on the offensive and remind the public what the REAL issues are and why the Repubs are the only choice. They can let the people know that if they prefer to wallow in the Foley nonsense, the Dems are more than happy to wallow with them.

It's no different for the Dems, Marshall -- they need to remind people of the same, if you ask me. Even more so than the Repubs.

I certainly hope not, and I don't think so. We do know what Clinton did, don't we? The Dems forgave him. They forgave Gary Studds for having sex with a page and Barney Franks for running a gay prostitution ring in his basement. There have been many more corrupt Dems than there have been Republicans, and everytime the Dems are found out they beg and ask for forgiveness, while the Republicans step down from office without whining and begging for forgiveness. Hopefully the American voting public, at least the majority of it, will be smart enough to tell the difference.

There's still a lot of time left on the clock, but the Democrats are holding all of the cards this time. Even Howard Dean shouldn't be able to screw this up.

Now, I know our country is infested with those who have a hippie way of looking at the world, but they aren't the problem this time around. Midterm elections are about turning out your base, and the Foley issue demoralizes a lot of social conservatives who are mad about having a gay in their midst than anything else.

These people are out there. I was arguing with a Republican about how we need to win in 2008, because if we implement the policies people like Jim want, we'll risk 911 times a thousand, which is 911,000. The values voter didn't care, since he thought the deaths of those "killed" in stemcell research and abortion outweigh those that would be killed in a nuclear attack against us.

So yeah, there are some total loons in our party, and if the conservative base isn't reliable in 2006, I'll definitely be pushing for Giuliani hard in 2008 so we bring more centrists on social issues into the party.

The difference is that the Dems have nothing to remind their people of that they haven't been saying since 2000, which is that Bush sucks. Not exactly a platform if you ask me. Oh sure, they could ramble on with the same ambiguous "we need a change" crap, but still, it isn't like a real message.

Jason,

If you've spoken to folks like that, I'm surprised you haven't reminded them who is responsible for pushing those "anti-values" issues and how much more of it they have to look forward to if they allow the Dems to win control. One gay guy writing kinky messages is hardly enough to indict the whole party. If we found that there is absolutely no difference in the caliber of men and women in each party, the basic philosophy of the right is still worth supporting. With the left, you know with certainty that such nonsense will out.

So Jason, since you apparently speak for me, what exactly are the policies I want to implement? Hmmm?

Dedanna said...

Amen. I guess marshall hasn't been listening. He makes light of the situation calling them just "kinky messages", when they were in essence a pedophile jumping onto his prey.

Yes, Mark Foley *is* gay.

Actually, he's both.
