I am quite sure this is true.
Kids today are much smarter and more Sophisticated than in the past.
They have busy schedules, they are apart of this club and this team.
Their video games are about 10000 times harder than they were twenty years ago.
Is that a good thing?
Remember when you were a kid and you simply went outside to play?
You made up a game. You found kids in your neighborhood and started up a game of baseball, football, basketball, ride bikes, cops and robbers, tag, hide and seek, ect...
All of kids activities today are scheduled, pre-planned events.
Clubs, youth sports teams, "play groups"
I have noticed this more and more over the past 10 years. Kids do not know how to "play."
They might be smarter in some areas, but they are loosing their imaginations.
They have to have everything planed out and decided for them.
And since everyone is away in some pre-planned group, kids who do stay home have no one to play with in their neighborhood.
Also, they get burned out by the time they are 16, then they don't want to do anything as soon as they feel they have their own power.
Of course, they is not everyone, and it might not even be a vast majority....
But it is becoming more and more common.
Structured play and sports teams are great...but in moderation.
Kids have a LONG, LONG time to be adults....let them be kids.

Nice post.
Young people are taught that if they aren't super-people early in life, they'll be designated to the "loser" category for eternity. Which is ridiculous-- contrary to leftist pessimists, you can make decent money in America doing a lot of things from driving a truck to selling real estate.
If one believes the good is always in the future, one ignores the good in the present and in the journey. Just as the opening notes of a symphony are not means to the final cadence, and the opening tipoff of a basketball game is not a means to the final score, there is no reason to think the rat-race is more important than the quality of our lives.
It's natural for some kids to want to grow up fast, or at least live as if they are grown up. My own 11yr old daughter speaks of friends who refer to certain youthful activities as "kids' stuff". They are inundated with inappropriate data that in some cases are actually targeted towards them. As the article suggested, some "adults" think it's cute to see such young kids wearing adult-type clothing. Though it's true kids are maturing physically at earlier ages, that doesn't mean they shouldn't be protected and guided toward the more wholesome and guided so well into adulthood. More to the point, kids are being nudged toward the decadent at earlier ages and it isn't a good thing for our society. It hasn't been thus far, with more kids having kids, being infected with STDs, and other social ills that are plaguing them. Nothing could be more sad and it is among those things for which we as Americans should be truly ashamed. You won't hear THAT from the Dixie Chicks.
