You brought it up. What's your answer? The world is a complicated place. Why shouldn't the Iranian's have an air defense system when the stupidest administration in the world is rattling its rockets threatening to take out nuclear weapons facilities that the CIA says don't exist?
Okay Jim, I shouldn't have put the liberal thing in there...I am generally interested in hearing what people think we should do...not bash Bush, not liberals (my fault)...

You need to realize, in the liberal mindset, socialists like Chavez and Fidel in Latin America, autocrats in China and Russia, African dictators like Mugabe and Mubarak, Muslim fundies like Ahmadinejad and Nasrallah-- care not only for our best interests, but care for the best interests of the prosperity and liberty of humanity.
Liberals think it is best not to think we have something special in the United States. We need to defer to everyone else, even to people who seek our destruction. For who are *we* to judge who is right and wrong? There are no absolutes, and everything is in shades of doublethink, ahem, I mean gray.
I don't know what we should do either, Game. And I worry because the people in charge now brought us the Iraq debacle. I don't mean to say this as a Bush bash necessarily, but as a plain question as how do we expect a good solution, a smart solution, an intelligent reaction from people who have demonstrated a lack of any of these capabilities historically.
I watched parts of an interesting program on TV tonight. Very educational. Ted Koppel on Discovery Channel, "Iran: Most Dangerous Nation." Very modern society, interesting politics, lots of animosity towards the US, as expected. I haven't seen the whole thing, but I plan to watch when it is repeated on Monday. Give it a shot just because you are curious about the country that is our enemy.
Jason, why is it that you say things about liberals that I can't relate to even when I am one!? You come off as such a goof ball sometimes.
Game One thought that has been mine for sometime is we need to quit sending all our money to china and saudi and iraq for that matter..those countries that dont share in our values. We need to bring our manufacturing home and develop alternative energy as fast as superhumanly possible and quit saying it is all 10 years down the road. We cant be dependent on other nations for our survival. As far as what you brought up one step at a time and quit panicing. A calm confident demenor will do more to reassure our allies and scare our adversaries than anything. Dont count your global confligration chickens before they hatch. Too much panic has been what has led us into the situation we are in now. Have confidence in our ability as a strong and powerful country...as TR said..speak softly and carry a big stick.

I hope you're right. Back in the 1990s, we did attack Yugoslavia and Iraq without U.N. approval. If you visit liberal forums like DailyKos, DemocraticUnderground, mydd and so forth, many today have renounced this conception and have put their faith completely in multilateral institutions.
Think about the critique of Bush. Liberals are not saying that he had a good idea and exectuted poorly. They are fuming because he violated one of the Laws of Multiculturalism: Bush forced a set of values on Saddam Hussein unilaterally. The complaint is that Bush should have went in with allies.
Well, Bush did have consensus with the Netherlands, Japan, Spain, Poland, the UK, Japan, Australia, South Korea, Denmark, Canada, Australia, Norway, Hungary, Portugal, the Czech Republic and so forth. However, he didn't have consent from Russia, China, North Korea, Iran, Cuba, France-- which leaves it obvious who the left really considers their allies.
If Comrade Pelosi puts the corrupt leftwing fanatic Alcee Hastings on the House Select Committee of Intelligence instead of the ranking member Jane Harman (no friend of Bush, but knows what she's doing), it will be clear to everyone how the Democrats see the world today.

Jimmy Carter said that we would run out of energy by 1990 if we didn't invest billions in alternative fuels. What happened? Oh well, it can always go down the memory hole.

This is a rediculous statement. Nobody has said this. Nobody of any influence. Please cite someone actually saying or writing this.
And I believe we HAVE invested billions in alternative energy. Between increased mileage standards, windmill farms, ethanol, etc. a lot has been done (not enough), but we would probably find ourselves in worse shape oil-wise than we are.
Jason..I have decided that most times one post is all that is worth while on most of these issues as what I say tends to be ignored and forgotten..let me just say, I have no idea if war will be necessary or inevidible but I can tell you that from a real life point of view that life is 99% attitude. It is more how one reacts to problems than what the problem is. If one takes the attitude that destruction and war is inevidable then it most likely will occur. Again that doesn't mean it won't happen but ..then once again the reaction and attitude is what is important. Having a prudent thoughful reaction is the key. Panic breeds more panic.

This is illogical. Feelings and wishful thinking will not make delusional and wicked men disappear.
Remember the 1930s. We tried to remain optimistic while Hirohito was killing thousands in China and Mussolini was arming himself to the teeth.
Pick a conflict from today. Take the Sudan for instance. It is ruled by a fascist government that is responsible for the deaths of 2,000,000 people. That's a huge body count. Yet people consistently deny there is a fascist movement in many Islamic countries, that Islamic-inspired fascists have no regret about killing mass quantities of civilians, and that they have no restraint when it killing millions of their own citizens, as the 1,500,000 dead in the Iran-Iraq war shows. And don't give me that predictable "America supported Hussein" crap -- any adult knows that had to be done to prevent Iran, with its insane human wave attacks often involving children, from becoming a superpower in the region.
You'd think after 9-11 Americans would stop watching television for 5-6 hours a day like Michael Moore and learn and understand what is going on in the world today. The left, which prides itself on being more enlightened than a benighted Republican like myself, should know better, especially given their stated commitment to human rights and democracy.
It is best to take evil at face value. Moreover, it is rational to put up with a little pain now to avoid a lot of pain later, especially when nuclear bombs may be involved. But in the left's universe, traditional marriage, Walmart, and Israel are the cause of all the world's problems. To say that there is a fascist ideology sweeping the Muslim world that needs to be, if not stopped, defanged, goes against the Multicultural creed and is deemed as hateful, even with body counts in the millions.
