I watched the governator yesterday, and I just sat there and was refreshed with what I thought was straight talk.
I didn't agree with some of it, but it SEEMED that he was simply saying what he thought.
Whenever I listen to 80% of politicians I roll my eyes at the carefully worded language and talking points.
This time neither side gets a pass.
Now, we have created this problem with the 5 second sound bite and media ready to attack anyone who has a slip of the tongue.
But Arnold just sounded like he meant what he said and it made sense...

Arnold is refreshing

I'm also a big Arnie fan. In light of the beating we just took, Arnold's decisive victory in one of the most liberal states in the Union gives ground for optimism.
Overall, the Republican message is sound. The entire 20th century testifies that free markets are better than concentrating power in a central capital, that traditional morality is preferable to revolutionary avant-garde views, and that liberal democracies can act as a force for good in the world. It is even got to the point where socialists are ashamed to describe themselves as socialists-- most pose as "pragmatists" who support giving the federal government large amounts of power over our income, education, health care, retirement, and other items on the Marxist wishlist. And most have doubts about the wisdom of what they're promoting-- I know I did when I was a Democrat.
What kills the Republicans a lot is the perception that they're hateful. Supposedly we hate the arts, we hate the environment, we hate poor people, we hate the sick, we hate other cultures-- the notion is that Republicans are simply a bunch of monsters who believe might makes right. What someone like Arnold does is remove the emotional barriers to the Republican argument, which makes people more receptive to listen.
I was against Arnold at first. I thought the recall of Gray Davis was totally bogus, basically a negation of an election after less than one year with no specific grounds. Needless to say, I didn't vote for Arnold then.
I did vote for him this time. There are some things I don't like about him, but a lot that I do like. He said it this weekend. He is trying to get stuff done for "the people". I really believe that he is. His emphasis on rebuilding infrastructure, environment, medical and technical innovation is what this state and this country needs. There is so much to do here at home, it is a shame so much is being wasted overseas.
He is a fiscal conservative, a social moderate, and an environmental progressive. That's what he said, and that is what he is demonstrating.
Arnie's far more lib than con. I enjoy the fact that he's not going to back anything that would screw us financially, unless you count that big chunk of change thrown down for ESCR. His liberalism in social areas is great cause for concern as I believe social issues are indeed as important as most, and it's impact is just as profound, particularly when it's negative. Overall, I like his apparent down to earth style and seeming honesty. I hope it's as sincere as it seems to be.
I never liked "Arnie" from day one, way before he was elected governor.
And I don't now. Probably never will. I hate his movies, I hate that he's trying to be a "big American" when he's Hungarian, I hate the whole McCoy.
Let's see, Austria has what type of government? Oh yeah, it's Democrat, but it's a Republic, with a long history stemming from the Roman Empire, to austrofacism to nazi-ism. Austria currently is a member of the EU.
I can see why people like him, but I still don't. I'm sorry, but I think that foreigners need to be kept out of the American government, all the way down and up. Do you want this American wannabe as our pReZ someday (as he does have somewhat of a chance to be)? I sure don't.

He's an actor. He can say and con the public with whatever he thinks they want to hear.
