Because like homosexuals, they aren't making a choice, and hence are not responsible. Their biology, as absurd as that sounds, made them do it, according to the left.
Understand the left's concept of the "Real Me." It is an immaculate conception, untouched by human conduct. It is the unassailable core of virtue that enables people to retain their self-respect whatever they do, from the racist tirades of Michael Richards to Bill Clinton sexually assaulting women.
To make a distinction between right and wrong, well, is judgmental. There's nothing wrong with making judgments, so I might as well put scare quotes around judgmental, i.e. "judgmental," to create the appropriate sinister effect. According to the leftist thought police, being judgmental today is to be avoided, unless it is a means to smear Republican politicians. Keith Olbermann will make your judgments for you; you can cheer or boo, but dare not think.
