Deer hunters gear up

Add deer hunting to my list of things I understand people enjoy but have no idea how:
List:
1. Deer hunting (add fishing too)
2. NASCAR
3. soccer

Explain why it is done...
I understand you get to drink ALOT and hang out...but I can do that in my basement

RE: Deer hunting. Venison isn't exactly available at the Piggly Wiggly or Super Valu.

RE: NASCAR. It is a Walter Mitty experience. Plus I get good ideas for modifications to my T-Bird.

Deer hunting and fishing I get though I do neither very often. Nascar I live for..gimmme poooower and the beautiful music that is an unmuffled engine! Soccer..don't get it.

I never got NASCAR (go Kenseth!)until I actually went to a race and started following the sport. Now I rarely miss a race (am usually BBQing at the same time, many times venison!). NASCAR and college football, All I can say is YeeeeHaa!

Catch a 5lb bass once and you’ll be hooked for life.

Deer hunting? I absolutely love venison (cooked properly, and I have a ton of good recipes), but sitting absolutely still in below freezing weather at the crack of dawn, is not my cup of tea. I’d rather hunt quail; you get to move around a little.

I don't hunt or fish, though I see them both in terms of practical value. Such knowledge may come in handy. Thus, I'd love to learn to hunt, with all it involves, but still would not necessarily take it up as a hobby.

I used to go up across the US border into Wisconsin to watch them drag race their beasts, but quickly grew tired of it. I would dig being behing the wheel, but watching it is boring enough that I could sleep even with the noise (some would say that's not saying much---I sleep through anything). At least with drag racing you get the results quickly, but NASCAR? Hey, cut it to two laps and you'll have something.

Soccer? It's for the youngsters and for them it's good because it's easy to learn and requires only one piece of equipment. As soon as they develop some coordination, real sports are preferred.

Real hunters go to hunt, not party. As you said, it can be done in the basement.

Marshall

Two laps?! Hardee har har.

'bout like a NBA game, all you need to see is the last two minutes. ;}

Have to agree with rhyno. Only idiots like to mix getting trashed with hunting. Not only is it stupid, it usually ruins it for the real hunters.

But after the hunt is over and you're all sitting around the lodge...

No way, dude! In racing, aside from crashes, nothing's happening but cars going in circles. In basketball, there's different plays, different playing styles, different types of shots, different players coming in and out of the game...there's much more to keep one interested and excited from start to finish. In racing, there's only the finish. I wasn't trying to mock those who like it, only explaining why I don't. OK maybe a little mockery...

What are these sports called "hunting" and "NASCAR" you guys speak of? Here in Chicago there is only DaBears, with the occasional basketball or baseball game as a pleasant diversion.

;)

A Pox on hunters from Chicago. They are a univarsal menace in the woods! You have to shoot back at them to get them to stop shooting at you!

Peace, quiet, observing nature, challenging your abilities against those of your quarry, practicing skills that are dying in our species. These are the reasons I enjoy hunting and fishing. Heck I do it for a part time living now. Watching the sunrise on your favorite fishing hole is great. Watching 2 young bucks knocking heads for territory knowing that you have snuck up on them and they don't know you're there. Very satisfying.
