Sometimes I wish I could live in the world of people like Dan Rather....to not have either foot in reality.
Someone has a fake document rushed out onto national TV infront of about 8 million people trying to make sure GWB does not win the election, and THEY come out on TV, and with NO proof just make up statements (like documents) that FOX just spews talking points...
its amazing how people can be so damn clueless

What fake document? Rather could not confirm that they were real, and it was wrong for him to present them without full authentication. However, nobody EVER proved that the documents were fake. Moreover, nobody ever argued, much less proved, that the essence of what was in the memoes wasn't true.
Do you have some kind of proof that the Fox memo was phoney? You know the one from Thursday, the 9th that said...
"The elections and Rumsfeld's resignation were a major event, but not the end of the world...And let's be on the lookout for any statements from Iraqi insurgents, who must be thrilled at the prospect of a Dem-controlled congress.
"Murtha will challenge Hoyer for the leadership. A former hawk v. a political hack."
This sounds really "fair and balanced." What a joke!

"Ridiculous" Dan Rather is simply
being consistent to his usual inept
way of making what he thinks is valid determinations.Just enjoy the good humor he consistently provides,as there will certainly be many more good laughs coming.
"However, nobody EVER proved that the documents were fake."
Actually, Little Green Footballs did. Bloggers showed decisively that the forged documents were created on a computer, not a 1970s typewriter. It was blatantly obvious-- you just put the text into microsoft word and use the typewriter font. The font, spacing, wordwrapping, centered heading, curved apostrophes, and so forth. There is still a reward of $50,000 out there for anyone who can reproduce the letter on a typerwriter available in 1972.
Jim and Dan live in the same world
The documents were never properly authenticated, but they were never proven to be false either. Little Green Footballs never had any documents to examine. They had copies of FAXED copies that were faxed and copied and scanned and posted online. FAXING and copying over and over will leave the results inconclusive.
AND THE POINT REMAINS, NOBODY REFUTES THE CONTENTS OF THE MEMOS.
And I thought Terry McAuliffe was truthful when we said the documents originated with Karl Rove. I guess we're at war with Eurasia today, not Eastasia.
Anyway, there's a mountain of solid information about the authenticity issues up on the wiki. Even if a fraction of it is true, you have no case.
I will admit, Jason, that Wikipedia has a lot of convincing evidence. I've never defended Rather for the lack of iron-clad authentication.
It begs the question, though. Where do you think the documents came from? Do you think that Rather typed them up in Word? Do you think a Democratic operative created them to try to throw the election to Kerry?
Rather didn't make the documents, but he didn't care who did or if they were real...
