Roosevelt on immigration

It just amazes me how wrong liberals are ALL THE TIME.
They don't get it at all...people used to get it

Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907.

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

I've seen this quote before and it is fundamental to what immigration is supposed to be. The part about divided loyalties stands out when one thinks of hyphenated Americans and how such is used to stand apart from the rest in one way or another.

Teddy would be puking if he were alive today...and thats just by how bad the Republican party has fallen into the gutter.

Adding to marshall, T.R. does specify the use of 'hyphenated' Americans. He says they only lead to divisions and distrust.

I love how rhyno gets all over the Right.
They are not very good in the issue, but then compare that to the Dems.
what is their message in immigration rhyno?
CONSERVATIVES say EXACTLY what Roosevelt said...and still say it today...
Find a liberal who would say that and mean it

I never mentioned it in regards to immigration. Way to do what you and the typical Con always does, and act like a woman by taking things so far out of context and then trying to batter someone with the falsehood. I am about 90% on board with regards to Pub immigration policy. I know T.R. better than probably any 3 of you, he being a deep personal hero of mine. He would vomit if he saw what the Pubs had become. Though, mostly because of how bad politics has become in general.

Teddy Roosevelt was the most manly president in American history.

I doubt that TR would want to give our enemies talk and therapy.
