Gov. seeks sweeping health system reforms

We are on a sinking ship my friends.
It has started.
Liberalism and socialism will ruin this country as it has everywhere else. We are NOT entitled to free health care, or really free anything....we have forgotten that....and now EVERYONE will suffer.
The quality of care will go down, drug and research companies will not have any incentive to create new drugs because Dem's will make them sell every pill for two cents.
Everything has to be "fair" and "free" in this country now...
So the people who are productive and responsible will no longer be rewarded with better schools, better health care...we are all going to end up with the same crap.

But I thought you loved majority rule. If the majority wants universal health care, shouldn't the majority rule?

No the majority can't rule if the drug companies and the health care megacompanies and insurance companies can't make their "fair" mega profits. The majority can only rule if businesses and families are driven bankrupt because their healthcare costs are approaching the mortgage level.

I've never heard of a healthcare system anywhere that didn't allow those who wanted to spend more for "personalized" healthcare to do it. Have you?

Wouldn't that be Canada? Mark Steyn has commented on the sorry state of such care there. Many Canadians come here to be able to find a doctor who doesn't make them wait in line forever. He makes it seem (I can't say he said so specifically, but he gets the point across) that one is not able to go outside the system, or to seek a medical help as we do here.

As far as majority rule goes, Game isn't complaining about being outvoted, only commenting on the dire results yet to come. We've seen and experienced the limited and tired lefty ideas and aren't required to be happy about it. If there's any comment on majority rule, it's only that a majority can sometimes be very wrong as they would be supporting universal health care. But that's always been understood on this side of the aisle. It's just more righteous and justified lamentations regarding the harm caused by Democratic Party dominance. I share his fears for the next two years.

I am talking about what will happen to our health care system because of socialism...

Game, you are certainly full of hyperbole tonight!:-)

I have met Canadians and people from a number of other countries that are happy with their health care. As a matter of fact most foregin people I meet are shocked that we don't have health care that cares for everyone.
I think that long lines is welfare cadillac stuff. I have to wait to see the doctor when I call him too. What's the diff? I have to schedule a surgery.
Sorry Marshall but making health a high dollar issue is harming this country as much as any universal health care plan. If you want to talk about ways to make it happen I am all ears but if you are against doing something to see that people can have affordable health care then we are again destined to agree to disagree.

Sorry Ron,

How much money would be needed to develop a drug for, say, measles if no one ever got measles? How much would cancer treatments cost if no one got cancer. The fact is, most physical ailments are preventable. How many are willing to make the lifestyle changes necessary to insure they don't get sick? Do YOU want to give up beef, cake, beer, driving backwards blinfolded at night with the lights off? Who the fuck really takes care of themselves these days? Not too many. So we contract and develop ailments for which great sums of money are required to alleviate. That's one part of it.

Another is the fact that every freakin' body knows medical care is expensive, but not too many people live in a manner that provides for the possibility of needing that care. How much do YOU set aside for the unexpected?

Another thread allows for reasons why health care is so expensive. Here, I will just say that I do NOT want to pay for the self-destructive lifestyles of others (Hell, I don't want to pay for mine.). Universal health care will force me to do this. If someone can't afford health care, then they'd damn well better take care of themselves.

And Ron. Ask your foreign friends if they like coming home with so little of their gross pay. How do you think they get that care? They pay big time to live in their socialist countries. No thanks. Take care of yourself and I'll pay my own doctor bills.
