They just did a roundup of illegals in LA 750 taken in(good thing). They were from 14 different countries including Poland,China,Indonesia and more that are not stopped by a fence...plus the fence is only an obstacle not an undefeatable one either. I'm not saying don't do it, just that it isn't the glorious solution you pretend it to be. Be reasonable with the pluses and minuses of these plans instead of just following the party line.
Game,
I missed the post where you claimed or insinuated the fence would be "the" glorious solution. Maybe you could point me in the right direction.
never said it would save everything, but whereever the wall is illegal immigration will go down close to 100 percent. Then we can focus on other ways people get in illegally...
Lets see data that shows illegals can get through a wall
Over half of illegals are in the country by overstaying their visas. A little less than half sneak in. The only solution to the immigration is a broad solution. Stronger border security, yes. But you have to deal with the 12 million already here. Deporting them all seems an impossible task.
So if deporting all 12 million is an impossible task, how many is possible and when do we begin?
But the question is in regards to the fence. It may only be an obstacle, but obstacles are good. Obstacles slow them down and as they try to go over or around or even under, it exposes them more than no obstacle would. Being more exposed raises the possibility of being seen trying to enter. It's all good.
I don’t agree with those 15% of people. Fence will have ‘some’ impact. It will slow down the flow to some extent.
But, TC brings up an important point. Many people come over here using a valid visa (mainly tourist/visitor’s visa) and then stay back here! You don’t need to deport them. You can make them return to their countries if they don’t find any jobs here. For that to happen, we need to start focusing on those who employ them here! Do our politicians have the stomach to go after the corporations and business houses employing these millions of illegal immigrants? Do they have the courage to do the right things, not being afraid of Hispanic vote-banks? Well, if past is any indication, I seriously doubt both parties. That’s one of the reasons why I want to see Tom Tancredo in primary debates!! I want to see where those other fake candidates stand on this issue!
okay, so there are other ways people get in illegally...that means we don't stop the border leak?
I don’t think any sane person will support border leaks. Question here is – what is the better approach? How best we can use our resources to stop this madness? Border fence will stop the flow to some extent and make some of the fence-crazy people happy. But, the problem will continue if we don’t make these illegal immigrants and their employers pay for their wrongdoings. When you take away the attractions like employment and free healthcare, the border leak will automatically stop (well, except for those drug smugglers!)
this is an easy fix...it takes care of one problem...why are you against something that helps...
Exactly. The fence is just one aspect of immigration reform. But it's hardly the only angle that needs to be addressed.
Today Laura Ingraham related the views of the Mexican president who compared the fence to the Berlin Wall. Pretty pathetic attempt to denigrate the USA for wanting to protect it's borders from illegal invasion. In addition, he seemed to blame the drug related crime on American's demand for drugs, rather than on Mexico's inability to take care of it's own shortcomings. He had similar bloviating regarding the reasons for "migration" of Mexicans to America that had nothing to do with Mexico's inability to raise the standard of living for all Mexicans so as to remove reasons for illegal immigration. So nice that he sees things so clearly.
Dude,
When did I say I was 'against' fence....?
I believe in a fence. Security is necessary. Just don't assume it will stop it all. Surely there is some record of who received visas and when. The law is the law. I'm not saying we can't deport all illegals; we just better be prepared to build more prisons.
I don't agree completely with the assumptions of those who want to require those who are here illegally to do "something" to gain the right to stay here. If they didn't follow the law to get here in the first place, what makes us think they will do whatever we require of them? What does it benefit them to reveal that they are here illegally?
No need for more prisons. INS procedures state that the illegal is deported. They don't go to prison. They just go. At least that's what they're *supposed* to do.
Unless they come back again, that is.
Dedanna,
You won't see anymore large scale deportations of illegals like occured in LA and in Iowa. The local Communist Nuns network is buying advertising on radio screaming for the people to contact their Federal Officials to not deport illegals in the name of humanitarianism.
With such appeals to emotions, you are not going to te the law applied fairly and swiftly.
I think that the people ought to petition the Vatican to reassign these nuns to Pakistan or Bangladesh to wake them up.
