Hey, I have to admit I agree with Rosie for the first time maybe ever.
American Idol has been and always will be a huge piece of crap.

No argument there. You can add every other reality show except for sports.
I’m not a huge TV fan period; I watch some sports regularly, maybe a movie or the discovery or history channel every now and again. So I certainly don’t eagerly await anything coming across the boob tube (well maybe the Daytona 500, the super bowl, the college bowls…), especially that brain-dead reality crap.
But I don’t understand all this “hostility” towards American Idol. It’s just an over hyped talent show, right?
I used to think it was all about that crap they call pop nowadays, but was told by my wife and a few acquaintances that while it’s heavily influenced by crap-pop there is a decent mix of other types of music. So last year I broke down and let my wife talk me into watching a few episodes towards the end of the season. I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised. I was expecting a bunch of Britney Spears wannabes but instead saw some very talented singers, performing a variety of music styles (once you got past the sappy group songs). Yes the shows were heavily sprinkled with pop-crap but there was enough good music to make it worth putting up with the pain, and hey, I understand not everyone is as a discerning music lover as myself.
OK I just read the article; apparently everyone’s upset because the judges are being mean to tha wittle fragile-ego contestants. (I didn’t see the shows, so I didn’t know)
First off I have to state I find it the height of hypocrisy for O’Donnell to be making any comment on “what's tolerable now as consumption in America for mass media”. I had to reread the quote to make sure it was really from O’Donnell.
And because O’Donnell is such a disgusting, despicable sow, I guess I’ll defend this show that everyone loves or loves to hate. If it were my show, I’d be pretty pissed if I had to audition thousands of people, and waste my time on people with no talent.
Sometimes being brutally honest can be a good thing. Especially in this day and age when everyone has to walk on eggshells for fear of offending the latest victims-group.
Man, I really expected to catch a-lot-of flack from my conservative brothers for daring to defend AmerId. I guess it just goes to show that those on the right aren’t as entrenched in their pre-conceived notions as those on the left.
