This story shows a lot about conservative versus liberal.
Coulter didn't directly call Edwards a faggot, Maher didn't directly say that he was sad the assassination attempt on Cheney didn't work...
Here are the differences:
1. the DNC, whom believes that anything that offends anyone who is liberal is punishable by death, calls out to have every single Republican candidate for President bash Coulter....and they do. Should the have to, no way in hell. Also, it is not a common topic of conservatives to sit around and call John Edwards a faggot...
However
2. NO ONE from the RNC or anyone in the media has gone up to Obama or Clinton and asked them to bash Maher. It is okay for Maher because he was talking about an evil Republican, and many liberals (on many blogs and in general over the years) have expressed their hateful desire to have Bush and Cheney dead.
So you have one Conservative saying something that conservatives never really say getting attacked along with every other conservative in the country while super awesome liberal Bill Maher can say whatever he wants along with all the other hate speech spewed by liberals about Bush and Cheney.

What do you think that Maher said?
And the beat goes on.
Isn't Maher closer to libertarian, which would put him half in your yard, half in ours? Though I suppose, you do have the right to trim the branches that hover over your airspace.
Spice
And neither Jim or jimspice address the issue, the double standard...
So you are apparently defending Coulters position?
Your so am I but what are you will not get you on the debating squad Game.
As I am sure your mommy use to tell you..If Bill Maher jumped off a bridge would you too?
Maher said something offensive on his own TV show, with no elected Dems on set with him, not addressing a gathering of liberals.
Ann Coulter was introduced by Mitt Romney (whom she endorsed) in front of the largest regular gathering of conservatives in the country.
There's a difference, but liberals and Democrats have not historically embraced Maher the way conservatives and Republicans have Coulter. Maher sells far fewer books, for example, and, with only a weekly TV show, likely gets less airtime than Coulter, who seems to be on Hannity at least as often as Colmes is.
What I want to know is why conservatives (some, anyway) are upset at Coulter now, as opposed to a year ago when she called Al Gore "a total fag" or any one of the several times over the last five years she's insinuated the Hillary Clinton is a lesbian.
Listen to all the spinning...my God. "Well...all republicans love Coulter and we don't like Maher." Are you kidding me!!!
Simple point so even a hate filled liberal can understand...
Liberals say things, no big deal...
Conservatives say things, liberal outrage occurs...
Both Maher and Ann are wrong. However, Ann Coulter's case is worse precisely for the reasons Jay has outlined.
Uh, ron and Jay, Barney Frank was on stage with Maher AND PARTICIPATED in the discussion in which Maher made his statement TWICE. Frank did not at all confront, clarify, or try to temper Maher's remarks. In fact, Frank went with the flow.
Spin that, Democrats Jay, Jim, and ron.
Ron, Jay, etal
you still refuse to address her original point. So what if she attempted to shock everyone into a debate that should have taken place years ago. You know she's right, you just have to latch onto the nonsubtle statements she said to make a point. Go figure!
And you wonder why the cons who post here sometimes tend to get a little acidic. If you didn't constantly dodge the issue and concentrate on style instead of substance, you wouldn't see so much frustration.
"Maher said something offensive on his own TV show, with no elected Dems on set with him, not addressing a gathering of liberals."
Jay, this is stupid. Who do think composes Maher's audience, both studio and at home, but a great gathering of liberals? Is it not true that he never has an equal amount of conservative guests and usually they are outnumbered? (I'm only speaking of his current show which I don't watch, that's why I ask. I do remember one episode(?) of Politially InCorrect in which the issue was gun control. The 2nd Amendment guests were Charleton Heston, G. Gordon Liddy and Ted Nugent against a hapless Elaine Boozler who was never heard from again.)
I have absolutely no problem with Coulter calling someone a fag. Frankly, I use the term myself. I do so on purpose, since I want my gay friends to know that I don't discriminate. Plus I understand that they are not looking for special protections, so how can I be more sensitive to them than to others? Which is worse, calling someone a "fag" or "a horse's ass" or a "mofo"? Of course calling people names is childish, but hey, it keeps me young.
Nobody has answered the question of what Maher said. So I'll tell you.
He said that just because the statement made on the Huffington post was offensive, it shouldn't be removed because people should be able to say what they want.
Then Barney Frank DEFENDED the fact that Huffington removed the post.
Then Maher said, "But I have zero doubt that if Dick Cheney was not in power, people wouldn’t be dying needlessly tomorrow." And, "No, I’m just saying that if he did die——other people – more people would live. That’s a fact."
Now these statements are debatable, but they do not convey a wish that Cheney had been killed.
I never said Maher said that...and Coulter never called Edwards a faggot...yet Republicans have to say they are sorry and yell at Coulter, but no on is being asked to say they are sorry about Maher
Jim
No, they (the statements) only convey the swallowed whole heartedly belief amongst the green kool-aide drinkers that Chaney is a murderer.
Jim, apparently, subtleness excuses any statement. After all you can just pretend the inferred was never stated. Hell you'll have the whole sound-bite media to prove it. What a gig!!!
You see, maybe that's the whole problem. In Ann's remarks, instead of smacking the libweenies in the face with the OBVIOUS, Ann should have remained subtle, and instead of trying to get a rise out of the main stream media she could have inferred whatever her little heart desired!
DAMN GAME - I think I just figured it out!!! Conservatives and yourself have been over estimating the intelligence of your audience. You just have to pretend you're Lib and figure out how to play the game properly. Remember the cardinal rule, style over substance...perception over reality.
Infer, suggest, insinuate... that's all fine. Just don't DARE to be sarcasticly correct.
