As you would say, "Where's the story?" The only source cited in this article is unnamed state environmental officials who say the mine has had a good environmental record and there is no evidence of unusual health problems in the area.
don't the environmentalist wackos say mines are bad?
coal plants are bad...
nuclear plants are bad...
drilling for oil is bad...
Who cares what wackos say?
algore is the king of the wackos, that is the point of showing how he follows the liberal philosophy "do as I say, not as I do"
"algore is the king of the wackos".
Do you know how absurd that statement is? It has no credibility whatsoever, not then, not now, not in the future. It is the war cry of the wing nuts.
Al Gore is respected the world over. You only demonize him to try make yourself feel better that he was not made president in 2000.
no jim...all the crazy crap I wrote algore thinks...hes an environmentalist wacko...and I guess you are too
Well, I guess, Game, you are living in a world where everyone is a wacko but you.
Hmmmm.
"Al Gore is respected the world over." Oh really? Respected by whom?
He produced a piece of high fiction that won an award. Oooo, I'm impressed, no really, I love a good fictionalist. Other than that he's a master spin miester, he can give a decent speach, but so can most politicians (or they wouldn't be politicians).
I mean really, what has he done to make him respected (besides inventing the internet)? Come on JIM, he ain't done shit, as my grammy would say. He's the master flutist, and you are the flutee.
Jim has gotten worse at making points lately...probably because it gets easier and easier to show the weakness in liberalism when they don't feel threatened and say what they really think.
I agree with you Game...
Let a Lib open his/her mouth and they make your point for ya.
Actually you are proving that my points are very effective because once again you have nothing to argue and are reduced to nonsensical or ad hominem attacks.
Wow. You're really willing to swallow anything, right? Here's the full story:
[T]here is no evidence the mine has caused serious damage to the environment in the area or threatened the health of his neighbors.
No hypocrisy so far . . .
New owners plan to start mining again later this year, after nearly four years of inactivity [. . .] bringing 250 much-needed jobs to rural Middle Tennessee [. . . .] Gore has yet to be approached by the new owner, Strategic Resource Acquisition, said his spokeswoman Kalee Kreider, and he and wife, Tipper, have not decided whether they will renew their lease. It was terminated when the mine closed in 2003.
Last week, Gore sent a letter asking the company to work with Earthworks, a national environmental group, to make sure the operation doesn’t damage the environment.
Still no hypocrisy, and, in fact, Gore seems to be demanding that the mining be done cleanly if he is to renew his lease. Smart thing to do, seems to me.
Al Gore Jr.’s involvement in mining can be traced to Sept. 22, 1973.
Former U.S. Sen. Albert Gore Sr. bought about 88 acres along the Caney Fork River from Occidental Minerals, a subsidiary of Occidental Petroleum, for $160,000. Included in the deal was the subsurface area. The rights to the minerals below ground were then leased back to Occidental.
On the same day, Gore Sr. sold the land and subsurface area to his 25-year-old son and daughter-in-law for $140,000. The mineral lease to Occidental was put in their names.
Kreider said the terms of the 30-year agreement provided the Gores “no legal recourse” even if they had wanted to cancel it, Kreider said.
So the reason the Gores even made any money at all is because they got land from their father, which came pre-encumbered with a lease for the mine. This is hardly the work of a hypocrite, Game.
Rather, it seems to me like an opportunity for the Gores to show leadership in keeping economic development (the area needs the jobs) while staying environmentally sensitive (the Gores are trying to get other neighboring property owners also to insist that the mine work with Earthworks).
And yet people like you are willing to take a cheap shot to satisfy your own sense of, I don't know, giggles. Gore can't win for losing in your eyes, can he?
"it seems to me like an opportunity for the Gores to show leadership in keeping economic development... while staying environmentally sensitive."
So in other words, since he "cares" about the environment, Gore can pick and choose which citizens involved in business to demonize. Which will never include people with progressive ideals like himself, of course.
Jay,
How much of your warped view is cut and paste from Kos?
Jason, please cite some "citizens involved in business" that Gore has demonized. The only demonizing I see is the wing nuts of Gore.
Jim:
Gee, where do I start? Gore has lied and slandered Big Oil, Hooker Chemical and Plastics Coorperation, and auto companies. The man is a serial liar.
Jason, regarding your links:
Big Oil. Read the whole article. Absolutely no citizens demonized.
Hooker Oil. Gore's name never even mentioned in this article. And no citizen demonized.
Auto companies. Article (April 2000) says Gore wants car companies to abolish the internal combustion engine. Not one single citizen demonized in this article either.
O for 3, Jason. Who is the serial liar?
Jim--
Your argument is invalid. If one of your fellow progressives said that all Jews are evil, you would argue that no Jews are being demonized because no specific Jews are named. Maybe this passes as a valid form of argument in liberal circles, but it won't cut it here.
It is a *fact* that Gore demonizes automakers and oil companies with the same level of zeal as the Unibomber. And the Love Canal goes back to the 2000 campaign, when Gore suggested that he was the one who blew the whistle. It turns out the corporation was innocent, but Comrade Gore will never let evidence get in the way of his reckless jihad against capitalism.
You have provided no evidence whatsoever of Gore demonizing anyone. None, zip, nada. You are the demonizer.
Show me a *fact*. Provide the evidence or back off.
Jim,
I read the first article and Gore plainly demonizes "Big Oil" as price gougers at the very least. How did you miss that? Then of course, he demonized Bush and Cheney as being supporters of big oil at the expense of American citizens. Now, between the companies that constitute "BIG OIL" and Bush and Cheney, that's a lot of people demonized. And that's just the first article!
Define "demonize". Does it mean criticize? And since when are corporations "citizens"?
From the article:
He said, "The big oil companies support my opponents," Texas Gov. George W. Bush and Dick Cheney, both former oil executives. "Their policies are in line with what big oil companies want."
Wow! Strong demonizing there!
Oh, I get it. He actually has to call them sonething like, "cocksucker" in order to demonize. Get real. He's far more subtle and "nuanced" for that. But to answer the question, demonizing is portraying someone as demonic, or it the political realm, just a bad dude. If you don't think he's demonizing his opponents, then you are what's known as "a sucker". School's out dude. Open your eyes.
My dictionary says:
To represent as evil or diabolic
I don't see anything anywhere in what you have presented that would come anywhere close to this definition.
Seems like to you, to criticize is to demonize. But I'll show you some real demonizing. Read above such wonderful dialog as:
"environmentalist wackos"
"algore is the king of the wackos"
"...hes an environmentalist wacko...and I guess you are too"
BTW Jason, the Gore-Love Canal thing? It's a LIE. He never said it, never claimed it. It's a Republic LIE.
Read it here.
