NBA action....no one cares

Looking at sports rankings over the weekend I noticed a few things...

More people watched the Brewer game than a Conference championship game in the NBA... 4.5 to 3.7
Almost as many people watched a regular season Cubs game as the championship playoff game...3.7 to 3.2
Racing has more than double the ratings that basketball...7.8 and 7.3 to 3.7...

I watched the first overtime of the Cavs/Pistons game and saw ONE basketball play in the entire over-time. I do not consider, dribble, dribble, dribble, push, travel and shot a play.
OR
Dribble, dribble, dribble, drive, run into three people and fall down a play either.

NBA stopped being basketball about 15 years ago....and most people are finally starting to figure out what the game discovered a long time ago.

We've been here before. Most people turn to the seasonal sport after their teams are eliminated from the playoffs. At least, that's what I believe. That's certainly how it is for me, although with the poor performance thus far by both North and South-siders, Chicago baseball hasn't offered much entertainment.

But I digress. No matter the sport, when my team is eliminated, my interest goes down. It wasn't always that way, but with time being at a premium these days (especially since I waste so much of it reading and commenting on blogs), along with the disappointment of my team not going all the way, I'm quick to find distraction with the current season sport.

And as far as your constant crapping on the NBA, Mr. Game muh man, your college snobbery has not only distanced you from real NBA action, but is not consistent in any other sport. I've seen your posts regarding the Pack, but never the Badgers or other college football teams. Never talk of college baseball. Well, good sir, the same dynamic plays out in each professional sport. Ever hear of Randy Moss? Barry Bonds? Just two examples of pros acting like assholes and thinking "me first" once the big money contract is signed. So P-SHAW! I say to your cager condescension!

Not sure if you were aware, but baseball, basketball and football are all different sports.
Pro football still is played like real football.
Pro baseball is still played like real baseball.
It is the NBA that looks like something else when it is put on the TV, and that is why its ratings are now crap...not just in Milwaukee, but everywhere. Those stats hold up nation wide.

And since racing kicks the shit out of the NBA every single time, and sometimes GOLF, that would take away your home town arguement...
NBA sucks
I win.

The NBA-"NO BASKETBALL ALLOWED"you
want basketball watch any other level and you see action without one player taking all his team's shots in the final minutes, and five
players actually working like a team. The last time I purchased an NBA ticket the Bucks center was named Lou Alcindor.I officiated real basketball for thirty years at the grade school, high school, and college level.I didn't miss the
NO BASKETBALL ALLOWED (NBA) ever.

Not so fast, Mr. Gamesman!

You might not be aware, but the NFL is far different than it was even twenty years ago. The rules have changed drastically in it's storied history and in many ways for the sake of the team earnings over tradition. I don't believe the rules are exactly the same for any sport between pros and amateurs. College ball uses aluminum bats, for example. You only need one foot inbounds upon receiving a pass for a completion in college football. Most of the changes that you eshew in the NBA are, like the changes in all the other pro sports, done for profits, to make the game more exciting to attract revenue. All sports are guilty of this. And just as I mentioned the last time this topic was put forth, college has it's share of me-first players, win-at-any-cost tactics, such as unethical recruiting practices, and a greater number of crappy players. You lose.

Scorp,

Lou Alcindor (or was it "Lew"?)! What a great basketball name. It's as great as Cassius Clay was a great boxing name. Kareem Abdul Jabbar just doesn't have the same panache. Nor does Muhammed Ali.

But I disagree with your claim about the last five minutes of a game. You damn well better believe that any team worth it's salt is going to try and free up their best shooter when it counts. It's absolutely no different in college, high school, or the little kid leagues. What idiot would want their worst shooter on the floor to try and win the game? That's, excuse the expression, stupid. Everyone's trying to win. No one benefits from losing, except perhaps the youngest group since they need to learn about how to lose in order to be good adults. In fact, I'd say that colleges are every bit as profit conscious, if not more, than pro teams. The money that gets pumped into a university as a result of national coverage is highly coveted. The argument against the NBA is lame if college ball is put up as superior. It isn't so on any level. You lose, too.

I have totally dominated this debate and my foes, Game and Scorpion, lie in a bloody, battered heap, wimpering in pain and humiliation. See me dance my end zone celebration!

Marshall doesn't get it...its hard to believe, out of EVERY SINGLE adult I am friends with, only ONE likes the NBA...
Now, I have noticed one thing...any black adults I know think it is great, while all but one white adult think it sucks...
So, I have to ask if Marshall is black...I am not doing what liberals do and trying to bring up a "race card"...but it is interesting to see such a sharp contrast in opinion...
Also Marshall...you are talking about rule changes and I am talking about the WAY the game is played...
In the real game of basketball you can't take three steps, you cant push people to the ground when you are dribbling, and I don't care to see dribble, dribble...three people on the ground every single play...

How does sports entertainment that changed the rules of the original game to fit the style of those who will spend their money to watch this form of entertainment have anything to do with those who would actually prefer to watch the original game of Basketball? Even in the "old" NBA where real basketball was originally attempted, the team play of the Celtics always beat the one-on-one
play of Elgin Baylor and Jerry West. But,that was when the league still had most of the original rules of Basketball. No celebration
necessary here,just the facts.

Ah, Scorp, the original game of basketball. Yeah, that two-handed set shot really excites! But the debate wasn't about preferring the college game, it was about sliming the NBA version as crap. Watching the best of the best might be for rubes like me, but that's OK. Personally, I like the game no matter what. I'll check out a local high school game once in a while and since my kids went there, I root root root for the home team. I see a lot more missed layups and free throws, though.

Oh, one more thing. Game, you honkey mutha...I was born a poor black child, but I'm three quarters Polish and the other half is German. So I can goose-step while eatin' perogis.
