Deep thoughts...

What do you believe will happen if we pull a vast majority of troops out of Iraq before the 2008 elections?
Which party would that help?

First of all, it would save american soldiers from getting blown up from those roadside bombs. That's the good news.

Party - I guess, Democrats!! Because, whether we pull out or not, things would only get worse in Iraq. And, Democrats would be more than happy to take mileage out of it.

At this point, I can't think of anything guaranteed to help the Republicans.

It will never happen. Why bother to ask about it?

Your guys want it to happen...and no one has the guts to admit it would be as bad as when Democrats had us leave Vietnam

We don't really know what will happen. We've got Bush's guess, but we've been working off his guess for the past 4 years.

It's going to be bad either way. Nobody really knows which is going to be worse, short term or long term.

And if nobody really knows, why spend more American lives and more of our children's dollars on it?

I think the Democrats benefit because they will be perceived as winning this political issue.

But I doubt it's going to happen. Bush won't let it happen because his minions will block ANYTHING the Congress tries to do and will veto anything they can't block.

If we leave Iraq because of pressure from the Dems, especially after the increase in troop level is working, things will turn even worse, making Dem's look very bad on national security and the war on terror.

Of course it's unlikely to happen during Bush's term. This is evasive. But to speculate is not wasted time, but a meaningful exercise that can bring about pertinent understanding. For example: We often hear of how Bush disregarded the advice of his generals at the start of the war (as if each and every one of them spoke as one). Now, the generals are saying that it could be as much as two years to fully complete their current task, and that the "surge" needs time to determine it's success. We also hear from many of these same men that a premature pullout would mean a total reversal of what has been accomplished thus far. Are we now to suppose that in this case, the generals don't know what they're talking about? Should Bush now disregard the advice of his generals?

Unless, of course, you're a Senator running for president seeking information from the Pentagon.

Right?

Right?

I'm talking about us, Jay. Who are you talking about and why should this senator have this access? Seriously, I'm not sure I understand to whom you are referring.
