Democrats block amendment to prevent Fairness Doctrine

But...but...I was told by liberals that Dems were never going to bring back the Fairness Doctrine...or that they would just try to go after huge companies to break them up...
Hum...this seems like another case of flat out lying by liberals....or stupidity...

From the link:
Senate Democrats on Friday blocked an amendment that would have prevented the return of the Fairness Doctrine, a federal rule requiring broadcasters to air opposing views on issues.

If they don't want to bring it back, why did they block this?

Great comment:
"Having the bureaucrats dictate the content of the airwaves isn't much different from what we are seeing in places like Iran and Russia where they are rolling back freedom of the press," he said.

why did they block this?

From the linked article:

Sen. Carl Levin, a Michigan Democrat who chairs the Armed Services Committee, objected. Levin's office said he objected because the amendment belonged in the Commerce Committee's jurisdiction, and because it would have taken up time while the Senate was trying to debate Iraq.

This is a Republic trick. Again from your link, Durbin said, "There is no big conspiracy here, there's no secret plan, there's no nothing."

More BS from the wing nuts.

Yeah, right, Jim. There has been talk of bringing back this foul rule and the Republicans simply wanted to head it off. But they blocked it with lame reasoning. Of course they want the Fairness Doctrine to return. They want to force their views to be presented. If this is a Republican "trick", it certainly exposed these boobs as the double-talking buffoons they are.

I especially enjoyed our very own Sen. "Pencil" Dick Durbin, who wants the Doctrine re-instated, but doesn't have the stones to introduce any bill to that effect. They know it's bad policy.

Bob Grant, the infamous wingnut who was one of the first conservative radio talk show hosts, recently filled in for "Baby Jesus" Sean Hannity, and he made a very interesting statement.

He mentioned that he built his career DURING the Fairness Doctrine, before the days of corporatist radio, and prior to the onset of the right-wing suppression of free speech for liberals so blatantly rampant these days.

Now, how do you suppose he did THAT, prior to Reagan's schialvoing of the Fairness Doctrine, that protected free speech for Americans, without affirmative action for neoconservatives?

Without whining?

(For any of you flyovers, Bob Grant made his comments on the neocon New York radio station WABC.)

"But...but...I was told by liberals that Dems were never going to bring back the Fairness Doctrine..."

Where on earth did you ever hear such a thing?

"Liberals and Dems want the fairness doctrine back, period."

And I agree. But you said:

"But...but...I was told by liberals that Dems were never going to bring back the Fairness Doctrine..."

Game?

What YOU said contradicts the first statement.

"It gets a little tiring to have Dems just say whatever they want and pretend they are something they are not."

That's exactly what I said when Pelosi said impeachment was off the table!

"I'm just showing one more example of how liberals here either don't know their own party..."

No, you're not.

You either:

a) chose your words poorly and are too embarrassed to admit it:

b) tried to crack some sort of wiseass joke and won't admit it fell flat on its face:

c) are underestimating the ability of the reader, which is insulting.

The choice of how you play it off is yours.

Now answer my question. Why do neoconservatives, who totally control talk radio and joyfully suppress all dissenting voices, need affirmative action to accomplish this?

Incidentally, I'm more of a leftist than a liberal (I seem to need to repeat this to wingnuts over, and over, hoping the message penetrates), and I'm not affiliated with any political party.

Hash is just a lone whacko. Yeah, right.

Jim, you got bitch slapped about Democrat working to bring back the (UN)Fairness Doctrine, and I even posted the quote from YOUR favorite site to post from, Think Progress.

The Democrats can't exist in a fair environment where the other side get to not only have their say, but to counter the lies told by the Jims and other Democrats, and for the Republicans to state the truth to rebut the Democrat lies.

I'll try, Hashboy. I'm bettin' Grant was a success because of his message and style of delivering it. That's usually why conservatives succeed. They do what needs to be done to succeed.
