MILLER LITE MAINSTAGE REVIEW:
Jesus was just all-right with the close to 7000 fans who came to the Miller Lite Mainstage at the Wisconsin State Fair opening night, and it wasn't even "Christian Rock band-night." Kansas and the Doobie Brothers jammed for just over three hours. Kansas started the show playing around and hour and eventually giving the crowd what it wanted, "Dust in the Wind" and "Carry on Wayward Son." Kansas did what many bands at their age do, they take a good song and play it for 15 minutes. The crowd was somewhat into it, but it was obvious they came to see the Doobies.
The played a solid hour and a half. With a concert running past 11pm, I would usually be a bit tired, but The Doobie Brothers had the right amount of instrumental, vocals and jamming. It was simply a good rock and roll concert. Some of the hits included Listen to the Music, Long Train Runnin', Black Water, Jesus is Just Alright, Rockin Down the Highway, among others. These were simply guys who loved to play, had a great ability to play actual instruments, and kept a crowd on its feet, dancing and singing for quite awhile.
As Kansas came off the stage one of the members of the Doobie brothers was walking off. My father said to him, "Pretty good show." The band member replied, "I haven't played yet."
The fairest of the fair was talking to the lead singer of Kansas, and I heard her tell him, "My FATHER really loves you guys." He replied, "Well, I hope you like us too." Most of the band member of Kansas along with some of The Doobie brothers spent the night backstage "Bowing to the Queen."
I did not have a chance to walk around the fair much, but I did get a Saz's combo plate.
Today was definitely a great way to start off the fair. More great stories to follow.
