I thought that any mention of a time line for troop withdrawal would be demoralizing our soldiers, telling our enemies that they should just wait us out, and would basically cause chaos to erupt in Iraq.

Now, Petraeus has announced that 30,000 troops will be withdrawn by next summer, and the troop levels will be down to 100K by 2009.
