I want to present this article as a great example of how "scientific" research should not be simply taken as fact.
Basically, if people would walk 30 minutes a day instead of drive, we would lower carbon emissions by 64 millions tons.
Think for a second....what is wrong with that?
Where do you drive that you can walk to round trip in 30 minutes?
That means you can, at best, walk somewhere two miles away from your house.
Therefore, walking 30 minutes a day is good for you as it pertains to your personal health and over-all well being....however, it will do almost nothing to lower carbon emissions.
So, the study says one thing, "scientific study" remember, yet common sense and thinking say another.
So, as you get this fake "consensus" on all these "scientific" studies about global warming, try using some common sense first.

This isn't science, it's just calculation. People do make a tremendous number of short trips in their cars. This person suggests that walking is a good alternative. Why is this difficult for you to understand?
That is not the point I am making...
The data here is completely false...
Show me the line when I said walking is not good for you?
I said the conclusions are crap, the data is crap...just like a much of the global warming "research."
Why do you feel the need to insult rather than debate?
Tell me how many trips are less than 2 miles?
They are taking 30 minutes of driving being equal to 30 minutes of walking...bad methods, bad conclusion.
Actually, its closer to 15 minutes from your house because at some point, you have to walk back.
by the way, foust?
maybe you should quit exhaling and do us all a favor.
did you understand that?
I agree - There are many studies out there playing with numbers...eventually misleading the people. Without knowing the full details of this perticular 'study', it's hard to comment on it.
But, I don't see anything wrong with the underlying notion of 'cutting down' on our resource consumption. It could be driving your car or energy consupmtion at home...it all helps at the end.
American...come on...
I was making one simple point about the numbers, the conclusions, and the assumptions in the study. 30 minutes of walking does not mean 30 minutes less driving...period..that was the point...therefore, because the researchers were either biased or stupid, their conclusions are invalid.
I am a health teacher. I think everyone should exercise for a minimum of 30 minutes three days a week. I am the biggest proponent of exercise and eating healthy...it is my job. However, that is not why I wrote this post.
