This is unbelievable...actually it is believable since it is MPS.
If you are an MPS teacher this should make you furious. The mindset of those in charge: It is your fault that there are too many suspensions.
It's not because they kids deserve it...
It's not because they know they will not be punished for what they do, so they do whatever they want until they are acting so terribly that they must be suspended.
It has nothing to do with bad parenting and a community that does not value education, responsibility or proper behavior.
Nope, its the teachers fault.
"We're doing a lousy job of sending kids out of the classroom," Andrekopoulos said in an interview.
What does that mean?
We have to understand the kids, we have to find out why they don't want to learn, why they can't sit in a seat, why they walk around the hallways all day long.
Andrekopoulous then said this:
He said he wants to see a big push in coming months for improvements in how teachers handle classroom behavior issues and how students are led to become engaged in school.
Ahhh, seems to be saying exactly what I just said.
How can things change when the people in charge will not admit there is a problem....I mean the correct problem.
The ninth-grade "parking lot" problem remains big. In 2006-'07, the percentage of eighth-graders promoted to ninth grade was 97.1%, a slight increase from earlier years. But many kids get stuck there - there were 9,002 freshmen that year, more than 2,000 more students than in any other grade in MPS. Thirty percent of ninth-graders were repeating that grade. Academic success among freshmen overall was not good. Forty percent had grade point averages of a D (1.0) or worse. Only 33% had averages of C (2.0) or better. Ninth-grade attendance was 76%, the lowest of any grade in MPS. "We're leaving too many kids behind at ninth grade," Andrekopoulos said.
Translation: Just pass them even though they don't do any homework, read at a 3rd grade level, come to class only 60% of the time, and do not have any skills whatsoever. Just pass them.

GAME...Did you expect anything better from awful Andy?? A teacher isn't supposed to send the kid out even if their fighting, swearing and cussing you out,or,running around the class disrupting the class...I could go on and on...you know the MPS creed..DEAL WITH IT..
IF PEOPLE ONLY KNEW WHAT REALLY GOES ON EVERY HOUR,EVERY DAY......
What happened last hour...
Two boys wanted to walk into class one hour and 5 minutes late (90 minute block classes). They got a pass so basically I had to let them in. They didn't stop talking the entire time they were in the room, even though the other 20 kids that came on time were doing a very good job playing a Jeopardy style quiz game to get ready for a test tomorrow.
sounds like that district needs to take a chance on a joe clark type for a few years, to restore order
to me, it sounds like a complete and total breakdown of discipline
This is the ultimate issue.! And it IS a conservative versus liberal issue – regardless of what Jay may say (is that his name?)
Jay – it’s time you admitted that “your” people are wrong. There is a time and place for “understanding”, and there is a time and place for facing realities!!! Does game have to spell out those realities for you?
There comes a time and a place that the betterment of society takes precedence over the betterment of a few. It sucks, it hurts, it’s uncomfortable, BUT, it’s for the betterment of society.’
Liberals run the schools
