MPS teachers must live in the city of Milwaukee....it that fair?

Milwaukee's public schools are limiting the talent pool from which they choose teachers by imposing an outdated requirement that all teachers must live in Milwaukee.

What do you think?
Should an employer be able to tell its employees where they have to live?Is it fair?
Is it un-American?
Does it keep property values up?

Doesn't sound very logical to me. What's wrong if I live outside Milwaukee?

It does seem to make sense for cops who should understand the community they patrol, and perhaps firemen so they are nearby when trouble erupts, but I can't see it making much difference for anyone else. My daughter insisted on NOT living in the same town where she teaches, so she doesn't have to run into them on her free time. She loves her students and all, but wants to live her life when she's on her own time.

Forcing municipal employees, police or teachers to live in a jurisdiction is the last sign of the imminent collapse of a Liberal Government.

Bridgeport, CT tried doing this with their cops, etc. because the pols wanted them to spend all their taxpayer supplied pay to be spent within the city limits.

I haven't heard both sides of the argument yet and selective facts and knee jerk reactions seem to be popular around here. That said it seems rather silly and unprogressive to me. Restrictive is conservative pcdummy. Unless one thinks like you and determines that con is alway right and lib is always wrong so it couldn't possibly be conservative. The dictionary and english language be damned!
