From an MPS story...

I was reading a story about MPS and came across this sentence...

About a third of students statewide receive free or reduced-price lunch, one measure of poverty. But almost 80% of MPS students are eligible for the federal subsidy.

Why do you think that is? Why are 80% of kids poor enough to get free or reduced lunch, but only 1/3 take it?

You're reading that wrong. There are two figures, one the state-wide average (32%) and one the MPS-only average (79%).
