Save the environment, burn down a house

great post from Fred
This picture is of an energy efficient compact fluorescent bulb from my home office.
I'm not completely positive how long that bulb had been in use, maybe six months.
One thing I am positive of, this bulb caught fire all by itself. Luckily the thing stunk pretty badly so we were able to cut power and stop this before it got really bad.
How exactly is catching my house on fire going to help stop global warming?
I've never had a normal old fashioned type light bulb catch fire before. And now the government is going to mandate these things????
I'll be stockpiling the old-fashioned ones.

Seriously, you need to calm down a bit and think logically. (You teach, right?).

Listen - I don't care what you do. If there is a way to save the energy by using new technology, we should be open to the idea. It's not about global warming. It's about improving efficiency and cut own on wastage as well.

Probably, looking everything from your poliical party's perspective is not very mature. I don't agree wih my lib friends on many issues including Ilegl Immigation an taxes! It's not such a bad thing to be Independent!! :)

I think the point is that the government is going to MAKE US buy these bulbs...THAT is the problem. I bought some of them, and they seem to be burning out as quick or quicker than the old bulbs.
In the last three years I have done EVERYTHING I was told to do to lower my energy bills...new windows, new bulbs, new furnace, new air conditioner....and I have NEVER had higher bills....and used MORE electricity.

i'm sorry, but that story was an exaggeration

it's obvious from looking at it that no "fire" was involved, there is nothing to burn anyway

either the bulb itself was defective, the bulb itself was too large or of inordinately high wattage equivalent for that particular socket, or it was used in an enclosed fixture or poorly ventilated lampshade

if it was simply the matter of the bulb being defective, all the user needs to do is contact the 800 number on the box that bulb came from, and the manufacturer will replace it, free of charge

otherwise, the directions on the box clearly indicate the appropriate and correct usage for these simple light bulbs in light fixtures and lamps, and if the author acted in defiance of these directives, he's at fault, and any "danger" he placed his family or property in is his fault and his alone, not that of CFL's, the manufacturer, or the retailer

conservatives are slow learners

obviously, somebody is trying to pull a fast one on you. these things are not energy efficient. its simply a ruse to get you to buy stuff that actually forces you to use more electricity.

compare the stats on the box to those on a box of incandescents and your "ruse" is soon over

my electric bills decreased by 20-25% after installing CFLs, and i pay the highest rates for electricity in the nation

in fact, new incarnations of LED bulbs that are even more efficient but are prohibitively expensive, as CFLs once were

You Sir (and I use that term very loosely) are a bold faced liar!!! You could remove every light bulb in your house, and not save 25% on your electric bill, unless you’re doing something odd with those “sockets”. You’re not doing something unusual with your sockets are you? You tend to be more left leaning in your comments, and you can never tell with a lefty.

American, I’m surprised at you! Since when does supporting the Chinese fall into the independent or liberal or whatever you’re calling yourself, worldview? Do you not give a crap whom you support as long as you can thump your chest and proclaim yourself a Greenie?

no, it's true

like i said, we pay the highest rates in the country

it really does make a surprising difference

Blamin,
Your emotional diarrea is truly disgusting! :)
Did you read my post fully? Did you miss my points on taxes and Illegal immigration to show my independent nature? Sure - I can understand why you won't get it. If I post under the name Rush Limbaugh, would it help? ;-)
Take care man!
